Max, Abigail, Rosie, Sadie's mother, and Ray were great additions to the main cast. I would've liked more page time with Sadie's mother.
The email-draft venting I can relate to; I hate to admit this, but I've become quite attached to my Notes app, and it does provide me some closure when I'm really ticked off. And realistically, you can get kicked out of school and ARRESTED for cyberbullying and making death threats, so as much good that came with the emails getting out, Sadie could've been in serious trouble.
I'm not usually a fan of First Person writing, but Ann Liang makes it interesting in the most simplistic way, with her weird analogies and maniacal\suggestive humor.
Immaturity and avoidable-miscommunication aside, I really enjoyed it. I'm ready for a sequel, this time letting us in on solutions to Julius's overbearing family, and a part where he and Sadie share the share that sour chicken dish Sadie used to share with her dad—it'd
be so poetic as opposed to her and Julius's initial relationship in the first book.
My only issues were Sadie's future-serial-killer vibes at the beginning, the trope where the male lead breaks his crush down to build her back up in his creepy, ulterior-motivated way, while also distracting himself from his rich and crappy family, the fact that the details of the camp getting back into order weren't elaborated on, and that Ann Liang focused more on Julius and Sadie's rivalry instead of their straightforward vulnerability.

yesss

I finished the book yesterday. I give it a 2.5/5. I really didn't like Sadie for along time, and eventually liked her a bit more, but it just wasn't my style.

Yeah, I didn't think she was that bad....looks like I'm also up for some self-reflection....

I almost put it down when (view spoiler)
I'm going to continue because I read a spoiler and (view spoiler)

I agree that she went through a lot with her family. However, I think it was the way the author portrayed her and the fact that they waited so long to explain why she behaved that way that it didn't translate. I know that everyone reacts differently to trauma, but at a certain point, many people have a parent that leaves or passes away and they don't act as she did, especially at 17/18 years old and about to go to college. It felt very immature for that age group to me.
