Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny with illustrations by Gahan Wilsom was published in hardcover, 1993.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments A mass market paperback edition followed in 1994.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments The 1994 UK mass market paperback focused on the animal characters.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments The first audiobook was published on cassette in 1993 and was read by the author, Roger Zelazny.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments Zelazny's reading is now available on CD and as an MP3 dowmload from Speaking Volumes.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments Of course, it's available as an ebook from all the usual places.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments And the book is still available in paperback. There are several editions. I think this is the latest.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments If you have a lot of spare change lying around, you can probably find the leatherbound edition signed by Roger Zelazny which was published in 1993.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments Don't forget the Audible edition, read by Matt Godfrey.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments A Night in the Lonesome October has been translated into many languages too, so there's a copy for practically everyone.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments For those who prefer their S&L reads in musical form, John Anealio has your back.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments Jane Lindskold, a close friend of Zelazny, wrote about his work.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments If you want to learn about all the characters that appear in the books, here is a very SPOILERY essay by Christopher S. Kovacs.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments Kovacs' essay appeared in one of two magazine tributes to A Night in the Lonesome October, published by The Lovecraft eZine. Both magazines are available to read online and feature introductions by Trent Zelazny, son of Roger Zelazny.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments Did I mention that I got a huge kick out of this book when I read it a few years ago? I think I posted most of this stuff in Discord, so I'm just covering all the bases and posting here too.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments The cover for the first edition of A Night in the Lonesome October was painted by James Warhola. The painting sold at auction back in 2013.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments I couldn't find an archive of Gahan Wilson's illustrations for A Night in the Lonesome October. There are a few images here and there online, but best if you enjoy them as you read the book.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments A lot of people have read and enjoyed A Night in the Lonesome October. Some of them have published their fan art online. There isn't one place to look for all. Here is a pinterest page with a few paintings and published cover art.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments Ok, I think I'm all out of A Night in the Lonesome October posts except for the advance uncorrected proof.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments Which edition are you reading?

message 22: by Mark (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments For the record, Sword and Laser is NOT reading this book...

Good news here in that the e-book version has all the illustrations.

Is this cover art really real

Yes, it’s real. For some reason the newer version of the audiobook is unavailable on UK Audible, and the only available audio version is the CD with this horrible cover. It looks like something I’d have made back in the’90s for one of my home-recorded cassette tapes using pictures I’d cut out of magazines.

John (Nevets) Nevets (nevets) | 1900 comments That CD one reminds me of bad PC game art from that era as well. The type that came only in a jewel case, and no box.

Trike | 11190 comments If only there were some sort of program that could create a better picture… 😆

I kid. 😁

It's called paying an artist.... Don't give it to the owner's nephew as a work experience project.

The illustrations are OK in the digital format.

Mark (markmtz) | 2821 comments Speaking Volumes is the company with the budget CD cover art. You can buy directly from them.

First-gen photoshop at its best (or worst)! The sun is really beating down on the guy in front, despite being inside. But to be fair, somebody clearly worked very hard on that for at least 20 minutes.

I see absolutely no problem with the colour/exposure matching algorithm used for those obviously bespoke picture elements.

By "all the usual places" you mean only Amazon? It isn't available on Google Play... I haven't found it anywhere but Amazon yet... Still looking.
