By the Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Public Library, many of these picture books are personal favourites and the reasons why they were/are banned are absolutely silly.

Brooklyn, NY

The reasons for book banning are ridiculous, so that for instance We Are Grateful: Otsaliheliga was challenged and even banned because some moronic parents thought that their snowflake children would feel guilty reading this.

Oh yes, and when Bruno Bettelheim claimed that Maurice Sendak's classic Where the Wild Things Are would be dangerous and frightening for young children, he had actually not even read the book.

Jennifer W | 101 comments Yeah, there's certainly plenty to choose from!

I have And Tango Makes Three here, but we haven't gotten to it yet.

Last night, we read Milo Imagines the World. My daughter didn't "get" the ending (view spoiler), though she did get that you can't judge people by what they look like. I didn't want to explain it to her, not that I didn't think she could get it, but because it was bedtime and not a discussion I wanted to open up when I was trying to get her into bed!

I also want to start a conversation with her about people banning books, but she kind of tunes me out when she gets the feeling that I'm trying to impart "important lessons". LOL

Jennifer W | 101 comments I started subbing at a school this fall (not my daughter's) and I saw both Eyes that Kiss in the Corners and The Family Book in classrooms!

I've read Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress, Sulwe and Itty-Bitty Kitty-Corn: A Picture Book, my daughter wasn't interested. They were fine.

Hooray! I'm glad the teacher was brave enough to keep the books.

Serena Prieto | 64 comments Q,
Fancy meeting you here. I got my mom into reading banned books. We read them to distract ourselves when we are fasting.[We fast by giving up video games rather than food, so when we cannot play, we read.] So far, our favorites are Winter Candle and Nya's Long Walk.

How about No, David! No, David! by David Shannon ? Just got banned from Wilson County, Tenn. schools for being in violation of a new state law prohibiting s-e-x-ually explicit content to minors. Yup a picture book about a naughty little boy. (bare backside = you know what?)

Or how about Wacky Wednesday by Theo LeSieg Wacky Wednesday a more recent Dr. Seuss book. I can't remember anything bad about that.

Or My Rainbow My Rainbow by Trinity Neal
About a transgender girl with autism and a loving, supportive family who works hard to make her happy. It's based on the author's own experiences with her child.

I really really did not at all enjoy No, David!, but there are no reasons at all to ban the book. And where is there sex in No, David!???? Anyone who thinks a bare backside is sexually explicit has some major issues with basic intelligence.
