SundayAtDusk | 88 comments This is not exactly a NetGalley question about a NetGalley book, but this is the only Goodreads group I belong to where I feel I can ask the question. Why would people like updates of books that you are reading? I am currently reading a book where I did a page/progress update and four people liked my update! Why?

P.S. One person was a friend, but three were not. The author was not one of them. :)

Rosh ~catching up slowly~ (roshreviews) | 324 comments For acquaintances, I do it either if the book sounds interesting or if the book is an old favourite. If it's a close GR friend, I hit like on almost all of their updates. For non-gr friends, I wouldn't hit the like button for such an update, only for reviews I like.

the_nerd_cafephile (nerd_cafephile) | 3 comments I feel like I do it more so as encouragement!! Because when I do reading updates its to get that dopamine hit and someone liking it is like encouragement for me to keep going.

SundayAtDusk | 88 comments Okay, thank you, I understand now. But how do you even see an update? I never see any updates on books others are reading.

Nancy, it simply seemed odd to me that someone would like an update of a book, where there is nothing but an update of pages or percentage read.

You'll find updates in the middle of the home screen of Goodreads. You will also see a specific person's updates by clicking on their user name and going to their profile, as long as it's not private.

You can also customize what updates you see as well by clicking on the customize button on your home screen's updates.
