Hello, I hope all OBNR members are doing well. The theme for November 2024 is about sending a message. There is is old saying "When a strong man sends a message, he sends it with a weak man." Let us find books were the main character is sending messages of any type to other characters in the book or vice versa.

Here is a list of the previous books we have read in this group to make sure your nomination has not been a previous Book of the Month:

https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

Rules
1. One nomination per person.
2. Poll will be set up when we reach 6 valid nominations.
3. Nominations should have been first published earlier than October 1974.
4. It would be great if you could share why you want to read this book.
5. To get a wider variety of selections, the nominations may be limited to one book per author.

Enjoy Reading,
La Tonya 📚

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 288 comments oh the perfect book for this would have to be
Cyrano de Bergerac (1897) - Edmond Rostand
Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand

Cyrano thinks himself too ugly (because of his big nose) to start a courtship, so he sends his love-letters by his handsome cousin Christian to woo the fair Roxanne

any translation would do!

message 5: by Larry (new)

Larry Hall | 123 comments This was a little tricky and I know it's a little out of the box for this group but how about "All the President's Men". Deepthroat delivering messages to the press should qualify. 1974 so it should just make it.

Awesome Choice and very timely with the elections in the U.S. in November. History has a way of repeating itself. Enjoy Reading, 📚

Yes, it qualifies. Enjoy Reading, 📚

message 11: by Mishek (new)

Mishek | 4 comments Hi, I nominate “The Man who was Thursday” by JK Chesterton. I didn’t see it in the list of previously read books. I think it might apply to this month’s theme. The characters in this book are of a secret society and name themselves after the days of the week. They send each other messages covertly, deceitfully, and unwittingly.
