Theresa | 15524 comments I rather like them all! I suspect that puts me in the minority.

message 3: by NancyJ (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11071 comments I read a surprising amount of steampunk already this year. Actually I’ve read all these tags this year. I have one steampunk and one creepy book in mind, but nothing for queens.

message 4: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5743 comments Hmm, none are my favorites. I read a lot of historical fiction but I doubt they have enough tags for queens.

message 5: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15524 comments Queens taps out on 44 pages of tags, and drops below 5 on page 2. Not a heavily used tag though a mixture of history, historical fiction, and SFF.

Karin | 9218 comments Wow, just wow. I can't believe the streak of choices we've been having.

message 7: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12060 comments Well, there goes my streak. I have something I want to read for 2 choices, but the other one which I thought more likely, I will have to dig deep for.

None give me great excitement.

message 8: by KateNZ (new)

KateNZ | 4100 comments I like them all too. I generally don’t read horror, but creepy has a lot of police drama or psychological thriller ideas, and maybe some sci fi or fantasy too. I adore steampunk. And lots of interesting books featuring queens - another cross-genre one. Hard choice this month!

Robin P | 5743 comments I like historical fiction and I like fantasy but I generally haven't enjoyed steampunk, which is sort of a mashup of the two. But I might be surprised by the lists, I'll take a look.

For BWF players, queens would be really challenging to match letters!

**It's always good to look at the lists, I see The Night Circus is listed under Steampunk and it is one of my favorite books ever!

Kim (kimkienzle) | 74 comments Not thrilled with these choices and never heard of steampunk before!!! Although, Robin, I did love Night Circus too!

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12570 comments Lordy Anita, can we get a new board-or something? LoL

message 12: by LibraryCin (last edited Oct 15, 2024 08:44PM) (new)

LibraryCin | 11684 comments Well, I know which one I really don't want!

I will be happy with the other two.

Steampunk is the one I don't want. Not a fan, either.

message 14: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5743 comments The steampunk list includes many things that really aren't that - some are fantasy, others historical fiction, romance, etc. So it helps to check the list. Also classics from the era like Jules Verne and H. G. Wells.

I agree. I really enjoyed Cinder, which has a lot of steampunk tags, possibly due to the cover picture. I don’t think the series fits the definition of steampunk as I understood it. If steampunk wins, I will read A Master of Djinn .

It sounds like creepy has the most genre flexibility for those who aren’t counting tags.

The only queens book I own doesn’t have the tags.

This is very true; people don't all define steampunk the same way.

Holly R W | 3112 comments I probably won't be voting, since none of the tags have any appeal for me. They are really far out of my reading range. :(

message 21: by Ghost of a Rose (new)

Ghost of a Rose | 81 comments I already have several books about medieval and Renaissance-era British queens in my real-life bookshelves waiting to be read. Including both novels and non-fiction. I’m especially interested in the War of the Roses and Tudor periods. So this vote is a no-brainer for me!

And the travel tag was also great. My list of travel books to read in October is so long that I’ll be lucky if I can read them all in a year. I’ll be in real trouble if queens wins, because that list will also be impossibly long!

And it could also include drag queens . . .

I also loved Night Circus.

message 23: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15524 comments @Ghost of Rose - you had to mention Drag Queens - genius! I have a book about Ru Paul's Drag Race in my TBR and a couple others that might fit -- burlesque queens and such.

There are a lot of Fantasy and SciFi books that feature 'queens' - including a lot that also have a speculative fiction tag.

Love seeing the creativity and if Queens showed up in 2025 as a tag, I'm all for it. But it just won't work for me for November, in large part because I am behind in various challenges and none of the books I have to read by year end fit at all - not even streeeeetching as I am more than capable of doing.

There are times, when I am quite happy that I don't have a vote and this month is one of those. Any of these are not really my thing, but I expect to manage something with any.

message 26: by Linda (new)

Linda Nielson | 388 comments For those having a hard time with any of the tags, just take a look. you may be surprised what books are listed under each tag.
I voted.

Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2594 comments I voted and was surprised I have something to fit each tag (not a lot though) for all three. I voted with just one vote for two that fit my best.
