What are you reading for this prompt, and how does it fit?

Amy (Other Amy) | 693 comments I LOVE this being the 52nd prompt! And I had so many possibilities for this prompt.

Blood Sugar by Sascha Rothchild The Book of Luce by L.R. Fredericks Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day by Seanan McGuire What We Fed to the Manticore by Talia Lakshmi Kolluri The Dangers of Smoking in Bed by Mariana Enríquez Christ Versus Arizona by Camilo José Cela The Cloud Roads (Books of the Raksura, #1) by Martha Wells The Chimes by Anna Smaill Experimental Film by Gemma Files Four Lost Cities A Secret History of the Urban Age by Annalee Newitz Milkman by Anna Burns Sharks in the Time of Saviors by Kawai Strong Washburn She Who Became the Sun (The Radiant Emperor, #1) by Shelley Parker-Chan Ghostwritten by David Mitchell The Haunting of Maddy Clare by Simone St. James The Penguin Book of Japanese Short Stories by Jay Rubin Girlfriends by Emily Zhou The Shamshine Blind by Paz Pardo Autumn (Seasonal, #1) by Ali Smith

And then, I found the book it has to be for me.

Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle

This cover is perfect sunset vibes, and I'm really looking forward to this book.

Charlsa (cjbookjunkie) | 550 comments Great choice to be the last prompt!

I'm using Murder on an Irish Farm by Carlene O'Connor

Murder on an Irish Farm (Irish Village Mystery, #8) by Carlene O'Connor

I love the cover. I think is has that calm, dusk vibe to it. I saw this book at The Poisoned Pen Bookstore when I was there in January. I've never read any of O'Çonnor's books, but she seems to be pretty popular. I also like the setting in Ireland as I haven't read anything set in, about, or written about Ireland in a while.

dalex (912dalex) | 2646 comments The way the prompt is worded - sunset vibes - makes me think of the colors you see in a sunset but used to portray an image of something else. As opposed to "a book with a sunset on the cover."

With that in mind, I'm planning to use Under Fortunate Stars by Ren Hutchings, because the cover has sunset-ish colors.

Under Fortunate Stars by Ren Hutchings

Denise | 524 comments This will be the first I read, not 52nd, since my book club is reading it in January:

Marie | 1060 comments I'm planning on reading Exiles by Jane Harper. The exact cover will depend on which of my libraries I get it from, they both work for this prompt:

Exiles (Aaron Falk, #3) by Jane Harper Exiles (Aaron Falk, #3) by Jane Harper

But I'd prefer this one:

Exiles (Aaron Falk, #3) by Jane Harper

I have a book club book for next year that fits in this (they're the first thing I look for prompts for). Not really sunset though, more full sun

The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife by Anna Johnston

message 18: by Severina (new)

Severina | 395 comments Like Pamela above, the first thing I thought of was The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife; that sun is sunset vibes to me with those colours. That's what I read.

The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife by Anna Johnston

message 19: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1570 comments I am doing the challenge in reverse order so this was my first book and I read Several People Are Typing. Odd book but enjoyable. I listened to part of it on audio and it was very well done, perhaps more fun than reading with my eyes.
Several People Are Typing by Calvin Kasulke

I also considered:
Gator Queen (Critters and Criminals #1) by Tara Lush The Celebrants by Steven Rowley The Real Deal by Caitlin Devlin Sandwich by Catherine Newman

message 20: by Irene (new)

Irene (irene5) | 905 comments This might be a dumb question but does "a sunset vibes" mean it needs to have a sunset on the cover as well as the vibes? Or is it a typo?

LeahS | 1363 comments Irene wrote: "This might be a dumb question but does "a sunset vibes" mean it needs to have a sunset on the cover as well as the vibes? Or is it a typo?"

The cover needs to give you the feeling of a sunset. So it could be an actual sunset or a book with e.g. sunset colours on the cover.

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments Irene wrote: "This might be a dumb question but does "a sunset vibes" mean it needs to have a sunset on the cover as well as the vibes? Or is it a typo?"

Sorry! I asked for the typo to be corrected but once something's voted in we just have to live with it. It was totally just meant to be sunset vibes.

message 23: by Irene (new)

Irene (irene5) | 905 comments That makes sense, thanks Leah and Ellie!!

Joy D | 712 comments For this prompt, I read:

Dubhease | 1157 comments I'm putting Hometown Ties here since that is an actual sunset on the cover Hometown Ties (The Four Lindas, #2) by Melody Carlson

message 26: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wendyneedsbooks) | 393 comments I read The Motion of the Body Through Space by Lionel Shriver for this one.
The Motion of the Body Through Space by Lionel Shriver
I've been on a sports book kick this year, and I'm training for my first half ironman this summer, so this seemed like a great fit. In fact, it really takes a crack at amateur athletes who practice a sort of "fitness as religion", and I'll admit that I felt very "seen", as they say. I still really liked it, and my review can be found here

message 27: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1489 comments I read The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson for this prompt. It was a really good (and LONG) book. The rest of the books are all over 1000 pages as well! Yikes.
The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive, #1) by Brandon Sanderson

message 28: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3317 comments I read The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje

This (awful) movie cover has a sunset in the background.

Anne | 307 comments I have read Retreat to the Spanish Sun by Jo Thomas, which shows a lovely sunset on the cover. Retreat to the Spanish Sun by Jo Thomas

message 31: by Denise (new)

Denise | 524 comments I read Daughter of Fire by Sofia Robleda

message 32: by LeahS (last edited Jul 08, 2025 09:20AM) (new)

LeahS | 1363 comments I read Night of the Taranta (The Jon Drago Adventures) by Christoph John for 'vibe'. A thriller by a local author, it was good on local colour in its southern Italian setting. I am not a great one for thrillers, so I found it hard to be too involved in the machinations of various mafia type gangs. However it felt well-researched.

For an actual sunset, I read Siracusa by Delia Ephron . It managed to make four very unlikeable characters into a good read - and another well described setting.

message 33: by Tracy (new)

Tracy | 2991 comments I read All the Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby. I really (not sure if "enjoyed" is the right word, since there are some horrific crimes being committed and described) appreciated this book. I don't normally read crime fiction, but this is my second S.A. Cosby book. The writing is high quality, and I really respect his main characters.

Re: the cover— not only sunset "vibes", but an actual sunset:

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 3537 comments I read Geekerella and Sharks in the Time of Saviors. I’m still shuffling books around for my 2 rounds. I might still also read Wrong Place Wrong Time.
I read The Light Pirate for a different prompt. I like the colors in the cover.

Sharks in the Time of Saviors by Kawai Strong Washburn Geekerella (Once Upon a Con, #1) by Ashley Poston Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister . The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton

The School of Night by Louis Bayard *The School of Night: A Novel by Louis Bayard

REJECT: A book where part of or all of the story is set in an Olympic host city (London)

Finished: 07/25/2025

From Goodreads:
An ancient mystery, a lost letter, and a timeless love unleash a long-buried web of intrigue that spans four centuries.

Louis Bayard is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. His books are well written and well researched.
