Robert Gonzalez Ready Player One by Ernest Cline is a book written fairly recently that highlights a unique dystopian future. It brings attention to many pop culture references from the 80's. This includes things like old atari games, movies from the time and even politics from the time period. The plot and characters are average but the settings and places they go is where the story shines. All the places are very unique to one another and the balance between the real world and the OASIS is great. The theme about teamwork is also great as many of the characters lose progress and regress many times when they aren't together which eventually unites them for the cause. Many people can make a difference by themself but together they can make an impact that will last a lifetime. The characters can sometimes be a little jarring and contradictory to themselves sometimes but overall they are decent. Wade Watts the main character goes from a nobody who lives in the junks of Oklahoma City to one of the most popular celebrities. It's hard to relate to somebody like that which is a downside to some but a lot of the time he is likable and enjoyable to go along with him on his journeys. Overall the book is good and deserves a read for people who enjoy 80’s references and pop culture. The book is a 4 out of 5 stars and should be worth a try.
