Dan | 1568 comments Please nominate any two weird works for December 2024 group read. I'll be really impressed and proud of you if you can make them seasonally appropriate recommendations.

Dan | 1568 comments For my first nomination, check this one out! Spirits of the Season: Christmas Hauntings. It's a British Library offering.

Dan | 1568 comments The only thing that puts me (personally) off about this following nomination is that it is in part in the YA genre. Therefore, I may change it between now and November 15. But if I don't find a better one, I nominate Claus: Legend of the Fat Man.

Nicolai Alexander | 303 comments Is this eligible? Can't find it in our shelves. Although that's no wonder, as it's actually a fairly recent collection.

The Wendigo and Other Stories by Algernon Blackwood :)

Nicolai Alexander | 303 comments And how about Weaveworld by Clive Barker? I saw it mentioned/recommended once over at Reddit's "r/WeirdLit".

We did read Algernon Blackwood's novella, "The Wendigo," as a group read back in February 2022. Here is the group discussion: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....

It is one of the least favorite group reads I've ever suffered through. No one else either read it or liked it enough to comment on, though on Blackwood's name recognition, I guess, it did well in the poll. I went into it with great expectations because I love the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Anyway, my review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/edit....

That more or less put me off Blackwood. Maybe technically I could allow this nomination because it's a collection rather than just the single novella. But is there any way you can nominate a different Blackwood collection if you really want to nominate this author, one that doesn't contain the story "The Wendigo?"

Too bad you didn't like "The Wendigo", although it is only one of fifteen stories in this new collection. I would love to nominate/read it if I can, if it contains some of his best alongside a scholarly introduction and notes. Hopefully you'll like his short fiction more!
