Dev Latimer | 324 comments What's the scariest book you've ever read and would you read it again?

Cassandra 🍁☕️📚 (blondie2611) | 151 comments Eyes by Joseph Glass. It’s not a popular book at all. I read it years ago and remember how creepy it was with the victims always missing their eyes. It wasn’t a bad book, but I never brought myself to read it again.

Judith Speed | 204 comments WhenI was a kid I once picked up a comic called Misty. The stories had a supernatural bent and nearly all ended in death/trapped for eternity.
I didn’t sleep that night.

Natasha | 136 comments Salem's Lot and The Shining by Stephen King. Wouldn't be jumping to read either again, but I wouldn't be against reading them again. There are too many other great reads out there. Also, Blindness by José Saramago - a different kind of scary!!

Nat | 139 comments The Amityville Horror was one that maybe shouldn’t be read, alone in your bed by an old window at 1 in the morning. Or when you find yourself waking up at 3:15 precisely every night.
Definitely would read again, I find it wonderfully terrifying when it’s based off a true story.

Rob Worth | 9 comments Haunting In Connecticut. Freaked me out good, especially being based on a true story. Probably not so much now though, since my wife interviewed the author, and he told her it was mostly BS, made up stuff. He said he was told to touch it up and make it more scary and interesting.

Caitlin Ball (httpwwwcaitlinballorg) | 12 comments The Fear by Charlie Higson. It was so horrifying it gave me chest pains. Best horror story I've ever read. It's part of a series, but it was my favorite of the lot.
The Fear (The Enemy, #3) by Charlie Higson Charlie Higson

Sarah B | 169 comments I have never been scared by a book and I have read lots of horror books too over the years. Read tons since I was a kid in 6th grade with my first library card and now I am 53. So the majority of the books I've read are not here on Goodreads as it predates the Internet or me even being aware that Goodreads existed.

But I have aphantasia. I don't have a mind's eye and I can't visualize. I don't see the things I read. There is no mental picture in my head of the action in the books. It's just words on a page. I suspect that is why it doesn't scare me.

I have had books that made me cry.
I have had books that triggered me and made me upset.

But that is not scaring me.

And to me lots of gore is more disgusting than scary. I prefer suspense over gore.

I have had a movie scare me. But not a book.

I also used to read old horror comics books when I was in elementary school! Those didn't scare me either.
