A little about the Book
“All this he saw, for one moment breathless and intense, vivid on the morning sky; and still, as he looked, he lived; and still, as he lived, he wondered.”

For more than a century, The Wind in the Willows and its endearing protagonists—Mole, Water Rat, Badger, and, of course, the incorrigible Toad—have enchanted children of all ages. Whether the four friends are setting forth on an exciting adventure, engaging in a comic caper, or simply relaxing by the River Thames, their stories will surprise and captivate you.

Hailed as one of the most enduringly popular works of the twentieth century, this story is a classic of magical fancy and enchanting wit. Penned in lyrical prose, the adventures and misadventures of the book’s intrepid quartet of heroes raise fantasy to the level of myth. Reflecting the freshness of childhood wonder, it still offers adults endless sophistication, substance, and depth.

The animals’ world embodies the author’s wry, whimsical, and unfailingly inventive imagination. It is a world that succeeding generations of both adult and young readers have found irresistible. But why say more? To use the words of the estimable Mr. Toad himself: “Travel, change, interest, excitement!...Come inside.”.

Pages: 197(depending on the edition)

♥ Sandi ❣ | 143 comments Altho I do read a few YA or childrens' books from time to time, I don't think I will be participating this month. I have a pretty full line up of books already set.

Enjoy everyone...

Austin George | 46 comments I will be starting this book today. I hope to see more participation from others.

Austin George | 46 comments Even though this book is often advertised as a children's book, its lyrical prose makes it interesting for adults alike. I don't really think this book is for middle grade kids as Goodreads says. It's more suitable for high school kids and adults. I read this book when I was in grade 11 and I found the language a bit hard at that age! I am going to re-read this book after many years. Toad 🐸 Hall, here I come!

A few pages in and trying to where the story is headed. I like reading childrens books. So hoping to enjoy this one.

Toni | 39 comments I was dreading reading this. As a child it was not on my reading radar. Although I recognised the imagery that was around at that time 1970s. Now in middle age reading it for the first time I recognise it as a pre war fantasy celebration of Britain and its Empire, I don’t think I’ve come across a woman or girl yet and I’m half way through. I’m liking the short simple stories and the loveable characters.

Toni | 39 comments Well how Mr Toad was my comment above ? So the second half of the book does have strong women characters that’s me told! Was Kenneth Graham making a comment on the British class system, where the aristocracy appear to be able to do what they want and get away with it and maybe are not very clever or talented? Or is there no message at all, it’s just a book for children?

Toni | 39 comments Thank you the link now works for me.
