A book with a snake on the cover or in the title.

2025 is the Year of the Snake so I think we all expected this. I have no idea what I'll read for this, though.

Listopia list is Here: A Book with a Snake on the Cover

Jen W. (piratenami) | 517 comments I found an existing listopia for some ideas:

Denise | 374 comments I don't think this will be hard just because of what snakes represent to people. I already have something on my TBR list Stone Blind. And it was only 2$ Canadian on Kobo for an ebook! I bought it just now, though I am a bit worried about why it was so cheap.

Stone Blind was so, so good

Rose W | 119 comments What about if there is a picture of a character in the book on the cover - and that character is a "snake" in the book????

message 9: by Agatha (new)

Agatha Donkar Lund (brandnewkindof) | 11 comments I'm reading Ann Patchett's State of Wonder right now for another challenge, and some editions have snakes on the cover!

If you feel like it counts, then it counts

Tania | 678 comments I've been meaning to get to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (The Hunger Games, #0) by Suzanne Collins

Sarah Merianos | 7 comments I'm going to be reading Sister Snake by Amanda Lee Koe for this prompt. Snake in the title AND on the cover.

Cornerofmadness | 806 comments Going with Lies on the Serpent's Tongue (Bittersweet in the Hollow, #2) by Kate Pearsall because I loved the first book Bittersweet in the Hollow

Thanks!

Dea (maidmirawyn) | 202 comments I like how we're reading through the Chinese zodiac. Gives me fond memories of Fruits Basket, which was my reintroduction to anime.

Also, I like snakes, so yay!

Ron | 2708 comments Excited for this prompt.

Sunrise on the Reaping (The Hunger Games, #0.5) by Suzanne Collins
Sunrise on the Reaping

Being released in March. Already got it pre-ordered. Can't wait for this new Hunger Games book!

message 17: by Angela N (new)

Angela N | 7 comments I think I'll go with Sunrise on the Reaping, too, but I can't afford to pre-order. I have two others that I might go with, too.

OMG, yeah, you didn't know?!

I am so stoked for Sunrise. For years Haymitch has been fanfic, but to get an actually book about his games is gonna be the best thing ever.

OMG you're right, hadn't even thought of those books! I'm working my way through book 1, just starting chapter 2. So I might add book 2 later.

Denise | 343 comments Maybe Galápagos or Hannibal unless I find a book on my physical shelves that happens to have a snake

Luna (faeryhare) | 8 comments I'm very much not in my fiction era, but my memoir/nonfiction era, so as a proud Australian I'm going to hunt for a book about Aussie snakes. Came across a brown whilst walking, got lovely photos at the zoo, so it would be really nice to learn about them - in particular those found in my locality!

Any reptile lovers in snake countries can tick off the prompt by finding a nonfiction at their local library and learn about your native species :D behaviour, diet, distribution, endangered or common etc. Adds to overall conservation conversations.

(Edit - just discovered Venom: The heroic search for Australia's deadliest snake which sounds intriguing! Love the taipans)

message 25: by Bea (last edited Dec 21, 2024 04:08AM) (new)

Bea | 648 comments I am behind the rest of the world in reading Demon Copperhead, which has been on my TBR since January, so it is my choice. It is also by an author that I enjoy...a plus in trying to fill these prompts where a lot of authors end up being new to me.

message 26: by The Pampered Librarian (last edited Jan 02, 2025 03:11PM) (new)

The Pampered Librarian | 165 comments I found at my library The Infinite Plan by Isabel Allende, The Once and Future Witches and The Birth of Venus - the last one has a snake on the spine not the front cover.

In junior section, I found Dear Student by Elly Swartz , a middle grade novel published ion 2022.

message 27: by Diana (new)

Diana (candystripelegs) | 246 comments I'm probably going to go with Black Candle Women, The Midnight Lieor maybe I'll finally get around to reading Freshwater

Some books I've read that will work are:
Raiders of the Lost Heart
From Bad to Cursed - I loved this whole series
Ninth House
Kingdom of the Wicked
Lore
The Once and Future Witches

message 28: by Darci (new)

Darci Day | 164 comments I keep meaning to give Charlie Holmberg a try, so I'll put The Hanging City into this spot.

I am reading it right now despite not having read the first one. It's pretty good.

The Pampered Librarian | 165 comments Last week, I checked out the book section at my local Walmart and found a few covers with snakes on them!

The Courting of Bristol Keats (The Courting of Bristol Keats, #1) by Mary E. Pearson

The Serpent and the Wolf (Dark Inheritance Trilogy, #1) by Rebecca Robinson

Skyshade (Lightlark, #3) by Alex Aster

House of Flame and Shadow (Crescent City, #3) by Sarah J. Maas

Ron | 2708 comments Time is getting closer for Sunrise on the Reaping !

I am so stoked for this one. Finally Haymitch is no longer going to be fanfiction and speculation.

Sunrise on the Reaping (The Hunger Games, #0.5) by Suzanne Collins

Anshita (_book_freak) | 267 comments I'm reading Sister Snake by Amanda Lee Koe by Amanda Lee Koe. I would have loved to own the paperback or hardcover but I'm still digging the ebook.

message 37: by As You Wish (last edited Mar 06, 2025 07:11PM) (new)

As You Wish | 29 comments I was going to read the new Hunger Games book, but I just started The Neverending Story. The Neverending Story by Michael Ende There are two snakes on it, holding the title of the book.
Edit: In an odd twist, the next book I started also had a snake on the cover that I didn't notice until looking at it: Inkspell by Cornelia Funke. Inkspell (Inkworld, #2) by Cornelia Funke

I love Haymitch. I thought Woody Allen did such a good portrayal of him in the movies. I also can't wait to read it.

Yeah I liked him too. I'm very curious as to who they'll get for a young Haymitch for the new movie.

Less than a week to go!
