An intriguing world where clock towers play a very essential part in a town's wellbeing. A faulty clock could play havoc with time and even stopped time which in turn cut off a town from the rest of the world. Hence, the need for mechanics to service and repair them. Our protagonist, Danny Hart, is the youngest mechanic and one of the most talented. At the start of this novel, however, he had just returned to work after an appalling accident which left a scar outside and in. Not only that, his father, also a mechanic, is stuck and cut off in a town where time has stopped where no human can pass through.

I wasn't quite sure, at the start, if I'd actually enjoy this novel. Forbidden love is a trope I do not particularly like. However, there was just so many other things in this novel (see above description and I really could just keep going!) that I really do like. It's a multi-layered complex world of alternate Victorian era London. The twist at the end was just wonderfully done and it shows just how one person's action can trigger another's and so on until the possible blow up. Fascinating!
