In this version of Victorian London, the vampires are in charge, but only if they were already in the ruling class when turned. Others become nighthawks if they have the right skills. Most are men, but Perry Lowell is one of the few women in the group. She is smart and cool, while her partner Garrett is charming but reckless. They are working a case that causes them to argue, with feeling of jealousy that is unusual for the partners. When the case threatens Perry’s life, the delicate balance is threatened. The case itself was ok, but the dynamics within the partnership were more interesting. I look forward to reading more about these complicated people.
