TerryJane | 4020 comments GUIDE TO THE 2025 YEARLY CHALLENGES

We are offering 15 yearly challenges for 2025 – ten member favorites which are back by popular demand, and five new ones, most of which are based on our members’ suggestions!

Below you will find an alphabetical list of brief challenge descriptions. Links to the challenges will be added as they are posted.

We also offer shorter challenges related to our quarterly and monthly themes. Please visit the 2025 Member Challenge Ideas thread to share your ideas or to learn about being a challenge leader.

-------------------------------------------------------------

20 QUESTIONS: Have fun with this bookish version of the 20 Questions parlor game by reading books that represent questions and answers.

A-Z: WOMEN AUTHORS: Read a book for each letter of the alphabet, using women authors’ first names, last names, or initials. Letter rip!

BIBLIOPOLY: Inspired by the classic board game, prompts are related to property colors, game tokens, and group activities, as well as diverse book, author and character traits. Play the game board!

BOOKWORMS TAKE SHELFIES: Be shelfish about your reading by organizing your reading around these freshly updated virtual bookshelves. Take a shelfie!

CLEAR THE SHELVES: Are your bookshelves, ebook storage, and audiobook devices groaning under the weight of many unread books? Clear unread books from your physical and virtual shelves with this popular challenge.

GENRE BINGO: Use the bingo card provided or make your own custom card. Next, read books to reach your goal in bingos, books, or both. Bingo!

I SPY: Search your books for cover art and title words to match our 30 categories. What can you spy with your little eye?

LET’S TURN PAGES: This challenge tracks the pages you read, whether you read a novella or a chunkster. For audiobooks, use the page count for the latest hardcover edition. Choose a goal and let's turn pages!

MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR: Read crime books to solve cases – who, what, where, why, when, and how? If you reach the top domestic rank, you may travel the world for the bonus INTERPOL level. Get your sleuth on!

OPPOSITES ATTRACT: Select and read pairs of books that contain opposites in theme, genre, title, characters, and more. Are you in or out?

POPSUGAR: Track your progress in the 2025 PopSugar Reading Challenge with fellow group members. There are 40 standard prompts and 10 bonus prompts. How many will pop up on your reading list?

SERIAL READER: Start, continue, or finish series you’ve previously begun, or read an entire series from start to finish. Get serious about your series!

SHELF AWARENESS: Broaden your mind throughout the year by selecting books related to diverse regions, cultures, awareness events, and celebrations. Explore the world!

TBR JAR: Tackle your mountain of TBR (To-Be-Read) books by randomizing your shelf, following prompts, or using an internet generator to select your next book. Write titles on paper and draw them from a jar, or give your books a virtual shake-up.

WHEEL OF FEELS: Explore a rollercoaster of emotions in a variety of ways – through feelings, title words, colors, or a spell-it-out. It’s going to be a wild ride!

Hi Jean and Welcome. You can set up your own space for tracking at Member's Corner.

Charley (charleys_reads) | 36 comments Hi all! Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this, if not I’ll be happy to move it someplace more appropriate! Is there a place where members can suggest yearly challenges? I’ve seen the space for monthly/quarterly but have been unable to find a space specifically for yearly challenge suggestions!

Hi, Charley! We don't have an ongoing yearly challenge suggestion area, but we do seek member ideas in the fall when we're planning for the upcoming year. Within the next 2-3 months, we will post more info looking for members' challenge ideas for new yearly challenges, or even shorter challenges that a member would like to see in a year-long format.

We had an comment about this very thing in the September Monthly Message that was sent out today. If you didn't get a copy in your inbox, you can read it in the Announcements! folder here . If you'd like to start getting the message delivered directly, you can adjust your Goodreads settings for this group.

As for where to ask questions, the Questions for Mods? thread is generally a good spot, unless it's specific to a particular challenge, in which case you can comment in that challenge's thread to reach its leader. You can also reach out via Goodreads message to a leader or moderator if you prefer.
