If you like trans writers and horror, and aren't adverse to reading YA/YA-adjacent, I can highly recommend Andrew Joseph White if you haven't already read his work. A more adult horror trans author I also love in Hailey Piper.

Oh, thank you! I have Andrew Joseph White saved somewhere but keep forgetting to add him to my Goodreads. And thanks for Hailey Piper, the stories look right up my alley.
And yeah, I've been seeing a lot of teen introductions and was a little curious if there were older folks in here as well hahah. Nice to meet you CJ!

I've been a group member for a bit, but keep forgetting to introduce myself!
I go by Kestrel, am nearly 34, am pan/ace and genderfluid, and neurocomplex. I'm white with a long ancestry in Appalachia, but grew up and live in Minnesota. I'm currently a bookseller and event coordinator and get to meet and work with many authors from the region. Fantasy and lite SciFi are my jam, and I really love horror and novels with queer/trans focus. My favorites from this year so far are Someone You Can Build a Nest In, The Stardust Grail, American Rapture, and The Thirty Names of Night.
I try to keep up with leftist non-fic and have a whole shelf dedicated to Frantz Fanon, James Baldwin, Angela Y. Davis, and relative material. Some new great reads from this year wereThe Message, Ruin Their Crops on the Ground: The Politics of Food in the United States, from the Trail of Tears to School Lunch, Care Work: Dreaming Disability Justice, and Humanize: A Maker's Guide to Designing Our CitiesHumanize by Thomas Heatherwick.
If I'm not listening to an audiobook, I'm listening to music- whether that's chill lofi, Kali Uchis, Janelle Monae, System of a Down, Danny Brown, TOKiMONSTA, THRONE, Polica, Father John Misty... literally anything. I could yap for ever about music, movies and videogames. And books.
I'd love to have more friends on Goodreads! I'm just under 100 books for the year, so I read A LOT and am always open to giving or receiving suggestions. Feel free to hmu with a friend request, or if anyone has a booksta, I'm on there as well but not as active.
