How are you doing on your yearly goals? Will you be setting different goals for 2025? Or are you someone who doesn't care about goals, you just want to read?

Michele | 5 comments I LOVE GOALS!
My goal this year in GR's was 170 and currently at 168.
I want to accomplish all 52 of the ATY prompts and maybe do a few other challenges in this group. I belong to several other groups and do "probably" way to many challenges each year. I sure do love to read📚📚📚📚📚📚📚

Bridget McKelvie | 1 comments I did better than my reading goal for this year in terms of books read. I haven’t started to think about what I will make it next year, I will probably raise it at least a little.
I sometimes set smaller goals, for example I wanted to finish two series I was reading before the end of the year. I have finished one and am super close to finishing the other.
For next year, one of my goals will be to read some of the books I own and have not read yet.

Dubhease | 1152 comments My GR goal was 50 and I'm currently at 52

My ATY goal was 45 and I'm at 50 and will probably finish.
My PS goal was 30 and I'm currently at 32.

I might do 50 books again next year.

I plan to do all 10 anniversary prompts
I plan to read a book set in each Canadian province
I plan to read 10 series books.

I don't know how many ATY prompts to sign up for. Maybe 35? Maybe 40? I won't finish next year because of the anniversary prompts.

message 5: by QueenEternity (new)

QueenEternity My goals changed a few times this year. Currently, my challenge is 158, and I'm at 139 books. So, I'm going to try to squeeze 19 more books in this year... I do want to try a higher goal next year, probably 182.

message 6: by Denise (new)

Denise | 524 comments I set a goal of 80 and have read 93. I will finish 100 by year end. Next year I will keep it around 80 also because other hobbies have fallen by the wayside to books and I'm itching to return to them.

I finished ATY. I will finish about 8 other challenges by the end of month.

message 7: by Charlie (new)

Charlie (charfield) | 18 comments I set my goal at first at I believe 30 books - it's now at 60 books and I believe I'm at 83 (which is wild considering I read 0 books last year). I've finished the ATY, and I'm joining in on the winter reading challenge for fun.

Next year, I think I'll keep my goal to 60 books, but I've committed to finishing the ATY (including the anniversary plots) next year :)

Misty | 1486 comments I set a goal of 150, and so far I have read 168 books by women alone. Honestly, when I set the goal, I had no idea that 2024 would be the spectacular craptastic hell hole that it has been. Reading has kept me sane. I will probably set a goal of 150 for next year with the hope that 2025 will be better, and I will not need to escape into books quite as thoroughly next year.

Great work, everyone! Finishing even 40 books in a year puts you in the top ranks of readers, especially in the U.S.

After feeling pressured by GR goals of 75-100 books for a few years, I realized I could set my goal to start with at something I know I will do and then I can increase it as the year goes on. Then I retired and then came the pandemic, when I joined a lot more GR groups and challenges. I now read (or listen to) over 200 books a year. But I do sometimes wonder if I would enjoy it more if I concentrated on fewer books. In the new year, I would like to read one longer book (over 450 pages) every month or at least every quarter. I do own plenty of them but keep putting them off for shorter books.

Jennifer | 25 comments I'm coming out of a long bour with ill health, and am so excited to finally get back to reading. I had set a 2024 goal of 24 books, but my health had not improved enough until this last month to start voracious reading again, so I am "cheating" my way to 24 with a bunch of novellas this month. But I am going to set my 2025 goal to 52 for this challenge. I REALLY want to read 100+, but I think I might set myself up for failure if I do that. So, 52 it is!

John Warner (jwarner6comcastnet) | 173 comments I complete the 2024 YTD Challenge and the Fall Challenge. I'm currently working on the Winter Challege. I set an annual read of 80 books, which these two challenges assisted. I"m four short of this goal and should be able to make this before year end.

message 12: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3839 comments I completed the 2024 ATY challenge and have read 63 books so far this year. Next year I’m planning to change things up and set my 2025 ATY goal at 30 because I want to concentrate on some of my really long books that I own and have been putting off for years. I might still be able to complete the ATY challenge, especially if I listen to more audiobooks, but I want to take the pressure off.

I completed the ATY and PS challenges. I have a soft goal of reading 100 books this year, so I've lined up some short stuff for december, but I'm not really pushing it.

For the past two years I've had a goal of reading or ditching books that have been on my goodreads TBR for more than 5 years. This year there were 30 books and I have gotten that down to 5, with one I'm currently reading. For the other 4 I have tried a sample and so I know I am still interested in them. I consider that a win!

I am an extremely goal-oriented person. My dog is food-motivated, I am list-motivated. A checkmark next to a task is like a little gold star sticker on the top of my paper. Most of my goals will carry over to next year: I'll do ATY and PS again. I'll do the read or ditch for books added in 2019 (only 14 of them!). And I've decided to track how many books with 'murder' in the title I can clear off my TBR just as a fun way of thinning the herd (44 currently).

message 14: by Dixie (new)

Dixie (dixietenny) | 1082 comments All done for this year! I completed 60 books for ATY (reading a book for every option, ex: science AND science fiction rather than OR). Completed the PopSugar challenge as well. I don't care for many of the 2025 PopSugar categories, so instead of that one, my goal is to run through the 2025 ATY categories twice. We'll see if I accomplish that or not! But I like to have stretch goals.

message 15: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2873 comments I set my GR goal at 75 books every year though I tend to read around 120 books. I like to have room for longer books. It is easy for me to just read shorter books to reach a goal instead of longer or more challenging books I’m interested in.

This past year, I have been working on completing the challenge in order with no rereads and haven’t gotten ahead until this fall. I think, I have two books left (I’m behind on updating my personal thread).

It has been great reading in order this year, but I’m also mentally worn out and need next year to be easier. So, I’ve decided not to read in order, but if I’m unsure what to read next I’ll definitely look to see what that week’s planned prompt is. It has been less stressful just focusing on one book a week and not rushing to finish the challenge earlier, so I’d like to take my time again next year and only count one book a week until the fall.

I’d also like to read the books, I hoped to read this year but didn’t.

message 16: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 678 comments I surpassed my goal of 30 books for the year! It feels great. My reading has really taken a nosedive since I had my daughter and then my health went to crap. I might up my goal to 35 for next year. I play along with ATY and PS, but I (obviously, with a goal of only 30ish books a year) don't expect to complete them. I feel like both challenges are generally pretty wide open, so I'm looking forward to both next year.

message 17: by Ciara (new)

Ciara (ciaraxyerra) | 313 comments This year I set a goal of reading 180 books, which is about a book every other day. I definitely smashed that goal. I'm over 220 at this point.

But I'd kind of like to read less in 2025! Or at least strike a healthier balance between reading & other things in my life, which might just come down to better time management/less dicking around on my phone. I sew all my own clothes & I have definitely done FAR more reading than sewing this year. My wardrobe is in a state. I have a lot that needs to replaced, & so many ideas for things I WANT to make, but I can't read & sew at the same time unless I get into audiobooks.

Other goals I have are to complete the ATY challenge with backlist only (with the obvious exception of the published in 2025 book). I read SO MANY new releases, which is awesome, but I really want to catch up on books I missed when my daughter was little & I was in the baby trenches & not reading so much. & I hope to read in order this year & pace myself to just one book a week instead of finishing the challenge in three months like a maniac.

My other big book-ish goal is to log a full year volunteering at my local Friends of the Library store. This week will be my second shift. I am sorting & pricing books & it seems like a lot of fun! & there are perks, like discounts in the bookstore, & we are allowed to "check books out" library-style. We gets tons of donated & deaccesioned new releases, so I should be up to my neck in books on the cheap! I would also like to volunteer at my local book fair (Portland Book Festival) again this year, maybe something working directly with authors this time.

Yes, I also sometimes find myself spending time looking at unimportant things on my phone (OED word of the year is "Brain Rot"). I have 2 big knitting & crocheting projects I've barely touched this year. I should make an effort to do them while listening to audiobooks.

I'd actually passed my GR Challenge goal of 200 books by the start of December, so I've extended it to 225 and I'm currently on 215!

Other than that, my main goals are the various challenges I do. Should finish ATY in the next couple of days. PS is a bit further out, but at least I have books chosen for all my remaining tasks. Then there are various monthly and quarterly ones I do, which I'm in good shape for.

message 21: by Virginia (new)

Virginia DeBusk | 4 comments My yearly goal is always 52 to coincide with this reading challenge goal. But this year audiobooks and a new commute to work has helped me to beat that goal. I just finished book 92 for the year and that is the most I have read in over a decade!

My students think I'm crazy when I tell them that I don't watch TV anymore! This is my third year completing the challenge and I LOVE IT!
