I've read a couple of books by people who went on the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela and I find it fascinating. A friend of mine even had that as a personal goal. I'll have to ask her if she still has aspirations to go,

I actually started my pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela (Camino Frances) 2.5 years ago. Unfortunately, I encountered a health problem and had to discontinue after 160 km, but will continue next summer.

That's too bad that you had to curtail your pilgrimage. I hope next summer will realize your goals. So exciting!

It was hard, but also rewarding, at least when I reached Santiago de Compostela. I had three years ago walked from St-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Logrono, about 160 km. Now I continued from Logrono to Santiago de Compostela, about 620 km. I took it quite slowly, keeping my daily walking distance around 18 - 23 km. It took me four weeks and six days, which included two rest days, in Burgos and Leon. I'm not at all athletic and although I did some training with my backpack prior to leaving, especially the steep up- and downhills were really challenging. In addition, it was the hottest June ever in Spain, so the heatwave didn't exactly make it easier. But I survived, didn't suffer any injuries and made it to the end. And I was even lucky enough to see the botafumeiro swing in the pilgrims' mass in the cathedral in Santiago.
