Elsje | 1 comments Are you an avid reader who loves discussing novels? We’re looking for Japan-based participants who are interested in joining a study on how globally successful novels shape readers’ perceptions of different cultures, places and communities.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
• Read 4 literary novels that have achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success around the world.
• Engage in 6 online focus group discussions (75-90 minutes each) with 9 to 11 fellow readers from your book club.
• Share your insights in a final questionnaire to help us understand your reading experience, as well as the demographic profile of your group.

COMPENSATION:
• You can choose to receive either paperback or e-book versions of all four novels.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
• Your participation and data will be kept secure and your identity will be protected at all stages of the process. You have the right to withdraw from the study at any time.
• You will read three novels in Japanese and one in English, thus is it important to be proficient in both languages. The discussions will take place in Japanese.
• The sessions of your group will take place on the dates listed below (all times are Japan Standard Time). While it may be possible to take part if you already know that you will miss a single session, please note that we will give priority to applicants who are available for all sessions:

o Monday 27 January 2025, 20:30 - 21:45
o Monday 24 February 2025, 20:30 - 21:45
o Monday 31 March 2025, 20:30 - 21:45
o Monday 28 April 2025, 20:30 - 21:45
o Monday 26th May 2025, 20:30 - 21:45
o Monday 30th June 2025, 20:30 - 22:00
