Q: This is listed as a monthly challenge. Does that mean it will be repeated every month?
A: Yes, there will be signups monthly so you can be paired up with different people.

Q: Why is there a free guess?
A: This is so you can guess any word that is not in the title of the books that you read. Otherwise, the words have to be in the title of your books. However, those words give you clues. Each word you guess will give you hints. A green letter is a correct letter that is in the correct spot. A yellow letter is a correct letter in the wrong spot. and a black letter is an incorrect letter.

Q: How many letters are these words?
A: For now, I am only using 8 letter words. Maybe in the future, we will upgrade this challenge to phrases or titles. Won't that be fun!!

Q: So I need to read books that have words that are exactly eight letters? Or can I read partial words like a five letter word and they just go in the first five spots?
A: You may choose a 5 letter word but they will go in the first five spots. You are guessing and whatever strategy you want to use is up to you. However, for your free guesses, I would suggest not wasting those.

Q: Can I choose a word from the subtitle?
A: of course

Q: Do points carry over?
A: Nope. There will be new signups every month and new partners assigned.

Q: Can I choose a word from the series name?
A: For your guess words? hmm, I didn't think of that. I suppose that would give everyone an additional option. It wouldn't take away from the game or give any unfair advantage.
I will allow this.

I'm pretty sure the above was updated after I asked my question but I could also be an idiot.

Mrs W Woodruff | 859 comments Just to clarify we don't have to read 3 books to get a guess? We get a guess after each book we read.

For each 3 books read you get a Free guess.

Books 1-3: You will read these books, and your guess will be one word of your choosing from their titles.

Then you earned a free guess of your choice. You don't have to read for this guess. You can pick any 8-letter word. Hopefully, your 3 books prior to this have narrowed it down for you. If not, repeat the process.

Nope, there will be a signup every month and you will get a new partner.

message 18: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 1040 comments Just so I'm clear... we will start reading different books (presumably) at the same time and then posting our guess as soon as we're finished with it. Wait for you to respond then pick up another book to read that will (hopefully) get us closer to the right answer. My guess will help not only me but my partner and vice-versa.

We keep reading and blurting out 8 letter words that fit the clues until we solve the word. Once I read 3 books I get a free guess that I don't have to read a book for. Once my partner reads 3 books they will then get a free guess as well? It's not 3 books between the two of us, right?

Truitt_T | 381 comments Hi Donna!

Yeah, I've got two questions for you.

I see we can guess with words of fewer than eight letters. May we also guess with words longer than eight, knowing that only the first eight letters will be used?

And are we going by finish dates for books, or start dates?

Thanks - I think this is going to be a fun one, but I hope we don't run you ragged!

Yes, you may use words longer than 8 letters. Only the 1st 8 letters will be used.

Finish date is what counts.

LOL! I didn't think this challenge would be so popular. This isn't the only challenge I posted that was more popular than I expected. I think I will survive.

RachelG. | 253 comments When you get a new word does the count to use a free guess start over? Example- I read 2 books for the first word, read 1 book for the second word then do I get a free guess or do I need to read 3 books for the second word first?

Nope. You get a free guess after your third book regardless of what Lingo word you are on.

Default count. Unless you have listened to an abridged version. Then let's talk. We may need to figure out something else there.

You see each other's guesses. The first person to guess the word gets the points.

You may submit multiple words. You do not have to wait on me. If one of the guessed words is correct, whoever guessed first will get the points.

esther ⭐️ (in school) | 59 comments By using words with less than 8 letters, how does it specifically work?
for example, let’s say the lingo word starts with T. if i chose from my book title ‘happy’, does it go like THAPPY_ _ or HAPPY_ _ _ ? (since we know the starting letter already)

Thanks!
