As in past years, anyone who finished the Reading Challenge in time gets to work together to pick the January BotM for the next year!

The rules for the picks are:
- Nominated titles must be single volume, OGN, or single issue (no omnibuses or multi-volume collections). We allow any kind of comic for nomination (e.g. Manga, American Comics, Franco-Belgian, etc.) as long as they are available in English.

- Only the first volume of a series may be nominated, unless the group has already read the previous volume(s) as a book of the month. To see what we've read, check out our group's bookshelf.

What would you like to read for January 2025? Let's aim to make a decision by December 31!

If a consensus isn't reached by December 31, the IRCB crew will choose from the recommendations in this thread.

Looking at the challenge page, it looks like Geoff, Paul G, and Tom finished the reading challenge this year - way to go!!

Shane Stanis | 51 comments I almost read this book for multiple categories in 2024, including Eisner winner (for Memoir), and never got to it.
I feel like that's a sign that I should nominate it for Jan BoTM:
Family Style: Memories of an American from Vietnam

Recommendation from the Discord: Roaming

message 5: by Paul (new)

Paul Goracke | 80 comments All good nominations so far, only issue I have with “Roaming” is I’ve already read it; but I’d already read last year’s “Catwoman: Lonely City”, so that’s not disqualifying.

My nomination as something I haven’t read yet:Yasmeen

Runner-ups I liked and encourage:

# Non-fiction
The Talk
Replay: Memoir of an Uprooted Family
Fever Year: The Killer Flu of 1918

# Fiction
In Utero
Karate Prom

Last call folks!!

Jessica (juicica) | 41 comments Also finished the challenge this year!! Might have announced it in the wrong place, lol.

These are some good nominations.
I nominate Birds of Prey: Megadeath by Kelly Thompson.
I also second Family Style or Karate Prom.

PS, sorry for the late entry - didn't see that this was up until now. Happy almost New Year!!

Paul Goracke | 80 comments This is a quirk of this methodology: Everyone has good reasons for their nominations, with little overlap. All of these (which I haven't read yet) look good enough that they're going on my To Read list, so I'm going to vote for "Mythmakers" simply because Tom was on top of things with his post.

Tom | 175 comments Yes, I'd be happy to read any of them, especially if they turn up in the challenge.
