E.K. Frances | 99 comments Trying to decide on which books to get for the holidays... Please can you let me know if these books are clean in terms of romance and if are any mainly romance without much of a plot outside it? And if I can only get one, which one is best? Thanks! :)

The Song of Achilles
Six of Crows
The Inheritance Games
Shatter Me series
Fourth Wing
The School for Good & Evil
Zodiac Academy

ella | 129 comments the inheritance games doesn't have any sexual scenes at all throughout the series

ella | 129 comments sure there's romance but it's not explicit

Maureen Vercruysse | 118 comments Fourth wing has plenty of romance and some spice a bit later in the books.

Zodiac academy is a straight up smut festival. Since you’re using the word “clean” in your question i would highly advise against the series.

Thank you! Fourth Wing looks really good. Is it a lot of spice?

Maureen Vercruysse | 118 comments It’s always hard to answer questions about spice because everyone’s opinion varies. I for one would not say the spice in Fourth Wing is too intense or frequent. But it is romantasy, and the relationship between the two main characters is essential to the story. I think you’d be quite hard pressed to find any sort of romantasy completely devoid of spice.

Thanks! I think I'll stick to one of the others.

Pancake’s Library ☾✶ (camelotreviews) Six of Crows has multiple romance storylines with some very minimal spice, but they don’t outshine the original plot lines

Mary Hi Everyone!
I'm Mary from Northern Ireland, U.K. and I want to make new book friends. I like most genres but favourites are fiction and thriller. Add me I'll add back 💕📖

alice (lana del rey's version) | 110 comments the song of achilles is a MM romance, so that's basically the whole plot. there's one sex scene (like 2 pages), but anything else is not explicit, just heavily implied.
shatter me is dystopian and romance is a big subplot (i would say from book 3 onwards, it's basically just a romance in a dystopian setting.) i really liked shatter me. but there are sexual scenes, but any are not described much (the author usually avoids going into much detail, and these things are usually implied using metaphors). but there still is a lot of romance, a lot of it is fluff and in book 2 and 3 theres mainly just makeout scenes, and a little bit of spice - it really does depend on your opinion though. the rest of the series doesn't have that much (again, she mainly uses metaphors and stuff to describe these romance scenes). the only book that actually has spice is in the last book/novella, 'believe me'. happy reading and i hope you find some good books for the holidays!

Thanks! I didn't even realise Song of Achilles was a romance.

Lisa Goldstein | 131 comments Yeah, all but Song of Achilles, same thing alice said.

bailey grace (baileygr4ce) | 17 comments the song of achilles is MM but there’s only one scene and it’s not long at all/ not detailed. it didn’t take away from the story but truly showed how much they loved each other.

from what i’ve heard the zodiac academy is pure smut

and fourth wing has a decent amount of smut but in my opinion it doesn’t take away from the plot

E.K. Frances | 99 comments Thank you all.

Is it consensual in The Song of Achilles? (I read a content warning that it had non-consensual stuff.)

I might just grab the second Percy Jackson and Inheritance Games as those two seem safe. :)

bailey grace (baileygr4ce) | 17 comments it was consensual from everything that i remember

Thanks. I crossed it off my list when I read the content warning, but I might try it. I've wanted to read it for ages.
