Wild Hope: On the Front Lines of Conservation Success - So the premise of this was looking at conservation success stories to demonstrate that it is possible and to see what can be learned and applied to other situations. In practice I found it kind of boring, not really that inspiring, and somewhat outdates (it's from 2012).
The Husbands - I saw this recommended in a couple places. A woman's attic produces an endless supply of husbands: each time one goes up, a different one comes down, and the past has changed to allow the marriage to have occurred. It's sort of Groundhog-Day-ish with the constant resetting. It started out fun, and there were some interesting twists, but by somewhere maybe just past the middle it started getting stale, and I think it could have been several husbands (and pages) shorter. I'd still recommend it as a mostly fun read.
QOTW: No goals, no challenges, no masters! I have apparently already read the same number of books as last year, so I should end the year at least one ahead, but some of those are picture books, so who really cares. I've got a book of Christmas mystery short stories planned, and then a New Year mystery, with maybe something in between depending on how much I read over the holiday.

I've been so busy lately that I missed last week. I also mis-numbered these posts somewhere along the way. After visiting our son in the PNW, we were in Maine last weekend until Tuesday and leave for our Christmas travels on Saturday. I cannot wait to return and just be home for a while.
My neighborhood book club met to discuss The Frozen River. I'm still not done with it (about halfway) but everyone loved it. It is apparently based on someones diaries. It is about a midwife in Maine (part of Massachusetts) in the last 1700s.
Over the weekend I read Dear Santa. This was a totally fluffy, no stress seasonal romance book I got from my Mom. It was a great escape to fluff and helped put me in the spirit as I prepare to get together with my own extended family.
On my Kindle I started P.S. from Paris. I have just barely started it so no thoughts on it yet.
I need to get back to listening to We Solve Murders for next month's book club. I put it on pause for The Frozen River. Now I need to pause that to come back to this.
We have about 20 hours of driving coming up and have some Christmas themed audiobooks we plan to listen to. I'll post next time if we get to them.
QOTW:
Did you reach your goals this year? Have you completed your challenge(s)? What do you plan to read for the rest of the year?
I reached my GR book count goal. I was not doing any challenges. The Amazon Original short stories inflated my GR count by a lot since they're only an hour long on audiobook. I'll have to take that into account next year.
I just hope to finish what I have in progress by the end of the year or spilling into early next year.
