Elizabeth (elizabethlk) | 365 comments I'm excited for this task. I love comics and I've been putting effort in the last few years to read more stuff in translation in general. I actually make my own personal challenge each year based on my own goals, and this exact wording was one of my own prompts until Book Riot published their list and I updated it so I wouldn't have the exact same prompt for both challenges haha

I would recommend The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, as well as her lesser known books Embroideries and Chicken with Plums. I would also recommend Poppies of Iraq by Brigitte Findakly, Ashes by Álvaro Ortiz, Brazen: Rebel Ladies Who Rocked the World by Pénélope Bagieu, The Body Factory: From the First Prosthetics to the Augmented Human by Héloïse Chochois, Wage Slaves by Daria Bogdańska, and The Life-Changing Manga of Tidying Up by Marie Kondō.

I'm considering Shubeik Lubeik by Deena Mohamed (mentioned up thread as Your Wish Is My Command, I actually have it out of the library right now and won't get to it before the new year), Aya by Marguerite Abouet, Grass by Keum Suk Gendry-Kim, Clover: Omnibus by Clamp, Death Note, Vol. 1: Boredom by Tsugumi Ohba, and Uzumaki by Junji Ito. I'll be paying attention to suggestions other people have too!

I'm doing Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood for this one.

GailW (abbygg) I recommend The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife, Vol. 1 by Iwatobineko, translated from the Japanese. This is the first book in the series and is a charming, quirky story.

Carly Really Very Normal (seullybwillikers) | 43 comments I'm currently working my way through Spy X Family, so I'm just going to read the next one in that series.

Lauraellen | 40 comments I started reading Witch Hat Atelier for a challenge years ago, and it was so lovely! I need to catch up to where the translations are up to

Robin (grayeyed) | 70 comments Went to my local library to find one for this task. I really don't want to get started on a looong comic book series. I was looking for a stand alone... I found Princess Ai. I'm not 100% sure it's been translated, but it has two people listed as translators, so I'm using it. Also, super weird, one of the creators is Courtney Love (what?!).

Katie (redbirdwings) | 17 comments Definitely rereading Persepolis: The Story of a Childhoodfor this one! Just got it from the library.

message 14: by Robin (new)

Robin (grayeyed) | 70 comments So because I'm not totally sure my former pick is actually translated, I've decided to also read The Complete Persepolis. I learned that my library has a copy, so it'll be easy to acquire.

GailW (abbygg) I'm going to read A Game for Swallows: To Die, To Leave, To Return by Zeina Abirached, a memoir, translated from the French, set in 1980's Beirut.

message 17: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabethlk) | 365 comments I also read Shubeik Lubeik! I forgot to post when I originally read it in January. I loved it, it's one of my favourite things I've read this year so far, and a new favourite for me in general. I love how immersive and expansive the worldbuilding is, and the story was engrossing.

Kathy Irvin | 17 comments I read A Cat from Our World and the Forgotten Witch Vol. 4 by Hiro Kashiwaba A Cat from Our World and the Forgotten Witch Vol. 4 by Hiro Kashiwaba - 3/24/25.

Erin | 27 comments Like so many of you, chose PERSEPOLIS, which one of my friends teaches to her high school students, so she loaned me a copy. I’ve been meaning to read it for years.
