Play Book Tag discussion

Dan had always been the quiet kid at school which often made him the target of bullies while at other times he felt completely invisible. At the end of summer he will be entering high school and he dreads the thought. Dan is given the opportunity to travel to Europe with a teacher and students from other schools. His lack of self-confidence worries Dan so much that he knows he will have a terrible time. As the group makes its' way through England, Switzerland, France and Germany, Dan begins to open up to new things: food, drink, the beauty of the countries, and even a first love. Dan finds himself attracted to pretty Amy and the two share much of their time together during the trip. Suddenly Dan realizes that he was the one keeping himself from engaging with other people and he becomes more invested in others and the world around him.

This graphic novel is a memoir written and illustrated by Dan Santat of his remembered experiences on the class trip. He is quite a talented artist, a talent that shines through his wonderful drawings.
