The Century Challenge: Read 10 books from any 10 consecutive decades (1 book per decade). Authors can only be used once in the challenge. You can use authors previously read by you. Or you can add a level of difficulty to your challenge by selecting only authors you've never read before.
I'd like to read a century of women - but this one is very aspirational, as I usually fail this challenge - but maybe this year is my year?

Delighted you have joined in again, Anetq. All that reading is commendable! I'll root for your Century of Women to be a huge success this year.

Thank you for the well wishes - I've decided to start early, rather than leave it 'til December and then give up :)

Also the A-Z of titles & authors are coming along nicely,
I'll take recommendations for the missing part of my world challenge: Australia - does anyone have suggestions for something good and maybe new?
Prizewinning? Written by a woman? Modern? It doesn't need to be all of this at the same time :)

Doing well on the alphabets - missing:
Authors with F U & something from QXYZ
Titles with L V & something from QXYZ
(I expect to finish these I usually do)
World Travel: Australia
Short stories: I've read 10 of 18 short stories, so a few more collections should do it.
My century of women is still missing 1940s, 1950s and 1990s - will have to seek out a few titles I actually feel like reading :)

The 1940s and 1950s are a mine-trove of underappreciated women writers. I'll be interested in seeing who you pick.

I'm having trouble finding anything I want to read from the 1940s - so recs appreciated?
For the 50s I usually end up with more Tove Ditlevsen - but have read most of it by now...
Rumer Godden A Fugue in Time
Elizabeth Taylor Blaming or A Wreath of Roses
Harriette Simpson Arnow The Dollmaker
Dorothy Whipple Someone at a Distance
Pamela Frankau A Wreath for the Enemy
Elizabeth Bowen The Heat of the Day
Natalia Ginzburg The Dry Heart
E.H. Young Chatterton Square
Carson McCullers The Member of the Wedding
Hope you find something in there that will be appealing. I have not read Tove Ditlevsen, but the TBR keeps telling me to!

Ooooh thank you so much - I have read some Ginzberg before and liked it, may go there again :) I'll have a look at some of the others!
And yes, obey the TBR! Read some Ditlevsen :) I can highly recommend Dependency the Danish title is "Gift" meaning both 'married' and 'poison' - her terrible choices and extreme honesty is a potent cocktail!

That's 40s for the century challenge:
1940 The Dry Heart by Natalia Ginzburg (1947)
I also made progress on the Author Alphabet with a U author, so only F to go on that one...

I read The Copenhagen Trilogy this year (my first Divletsen) and enjoyed her writing. I think you'd like her, Sara :)
