RachelG. | 311 comments Hi team! I'm excited to go on this journey with you. I have not played DnD but have been interested in it. I was all excited to be a gnome and that isn't even an option so now I'm trying to figure out what's next. I do know that Ranger is the class I want.

Any thoughts on a team name? I am not very creative.

message 4: by Catsalive (last edited Dec 28, 2024 12:02PM) (new)

Catsalive | 1475 comments Hi Team. I have no idea about D & D, & I don't mind what race or class we choose so Ranger Class is fine with me.

Looking at the race tasks, human would be simplest but I could probably find something for elf or dwarf.

The Turned Wyrms?

message 5: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. | 311 comments I liked The Turned Wyrms! Let's see what Fi thinks.

I figured we each could choose a different race and class if desired. I asked in the Q&A for clarification. Sometimes I am not good at actually reading everything throughly in these challenges.

message 6: by Fi (new)

Fi | 77 comments Hello! The Turned Wyrms sounds great!

I thought we could choose different races/classes too, so we're ready for anything the quests throw at us. But I've never played D&D either, so thanks for asking Rachel. :)

message 8: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. | 311 comments Welcome Angie! Are you also okay with the team name The Turned Wyrms? We haven't officially posted yet.

message 9: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. | 311 comments Also Donna answered my question about if we need to have the same race and class here and her answer was-

Oh no. Absolutely not. You will each make your own decisions on race & class. This is a good thing. Everyone will have their own skills. You may need a variety of skills because you never know what quest you will be sent on. It may be easy but it may not be. Your skills may be the answer. You decide the path you take in this game.

Hi all!
I have never played D&D; but have heard much about it! I'm good with the team name!

message 11: by Fi (new)

Fi | 77 comments Hi Angie!

Since none of us have played D&D before I guess we'll be figuring this out together. I did play some similar video games, and building a team of different abilities did work best. So we could try something like:

A warrior (barbarian/fighter) to protect the more squishy members of the team.

A wizard (maybe druid too?) to cast spells and heal.

A rogue to unlock things and sneak about undetected.

And then our versatile ranger for Rachel to round out the team.

This is just a suggestion of course, we could all be wizards too lol.

I like the idea of a variety of roles/characters. You guys choose and then I'll pick last.

Quest #1

A prized 'sack of flour' has been stolen from you, but you've tracked it down to a highly secure bank. The bank will not give it back to you. Do you give up, or plan a heist?

If you give up: spell out CONCEDE
C
O
N
C
E
D
E

If you plan a heist.
Step 1: Gather your heist materials
Minimum 4 books - items should be on covers or in the title

Step 2: Security - security guards & alarms
Read a book with a security guard character (to distract him)
Read a book with the word alarm in the text (to disable it)
{Create your own additional tasks as needed to fit your plan}

Step 3: Execute your plan - tell me your plan
Use book titles BUT please use filler words as needed to tell me your plan. Minimum of 4 books.

message 25: by RachelG. (last edited Jan 08, 2025 01:17PM) (new)

RachelG. | 311 comments Here are some books I have that I was planning on reading soon which may help us with a heist because we can't let that bank keep our flour:
Grand Cru Heist (The Winemaker Detective Series Book 2) by Jean-Pierre Alaux - poison the bottle of wine that the security guard can drink and the footprints can be all that is seen when we get away using stealth.
The Screaming Staircase (Lockwood & Co., #1) by Jonathan Stroud - swords on cover
Spellbreaker
Mrs. Jeffries Delivers the Goods
Mind over Magic (A Witch in Wolf Wood, #1) by Lindsay Buroker - wolf can help?
Reborn as a Demonic Tree
The Undetectables
Proposals and Poison
Murder With Peacocks (Meg Langslow, #1) by Donna Andrews - set peacocks loose to distract the guard

message 26: by Fi (last edited Jan 05, 2025 12:07PM) (new)

Fi | 77 comments I'm reading A Series of Rooms which has also alarm in text, or might be useful for step 3?

ETA: looks like books from steps 1 and 2 can be reused for step 3 per Q&A.

message 27: by Fi (new)

Fi | 77 comments So should we come up with a plan for the heist so we can figure out what we need?

Rachel, did you have a book for security guard or do we still need it?

I'll start An Embrace of Citrus & Snow (Fallen for a Fae Book 1) by Rowan Amaris , we can use the horse to make our escape.

message 28: by Catsalive (new)

Catsalive | 1475 comments We might need an Emergency Exit Only by Michelle Upton 5/1 3.5★

message 29: by RachelG. (last edited Jan 08, 2025 01:03PM) (new)

RachelG. | 311 comments I finished my book with a security guard yesterday and will add it to the spreadsheet.

What items do we even need for a heist? I had thought about googling it but then thought that might not be a great search. I think the book I am currently reading, Spellbreaker, might be good in order to disarm any spells guarding the flour. Do we need a weapon to threaten? how do we want to distract a guard? Getaway horse will be helpful. We may need a bag or something to put the flour in and conceal it once we get outside?

message 30: by Fi (last edited Jan 08, 2025 02:22PM) (new)

Fi | 77 comments It says it's a highly secure bank, but just a sack of "flour". So it would make perfect sense to keep it locked in a room guarded by spells.

Step 1: (materials)

Spellbreaker in title (to break the spell) - Rachel
Key or lock pick in cover/title to open the door?
Bag in cover/title to conceal our "flour"
Maybe a disguise of some sort?
Horse on cover (to make our getaway) - Fi

Step 2: (security)

Read a book with a security guard character (to distract him) - Rachel
Read a book with the word alarm in the text (to disable it) - Fi

Set peacocks loose to distract the guard and ensure he stays distracted for a while - Rachel

Step 3: (the plan)

Something like: we go into the bank in a disguise, set peacocks loose to distract the guard, open/pick the lock and break the spells guarding the flour (Spellbreaker - Rachel), put it in a bag and make for the Emergency Exit Only (Catsalive) to leave the bank, into An Embrace of Citrus and Snow (Fi), where our horse awaits ?

Our characters abilities might be useful here too?

We can probably use a few of your titles here too Rachel, I'm just not very good at it lol

message 31: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. | 311 comments I think you have made a great plan Fi! I would imagine that books with either covers or titles for the materials shouldn't be too hard to find.

message 32: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3480 comments Mod
Great plan, Fi!
Let me see what books I have coming up and how I can contribute. If I don't have anything that fits, I'll find something that does!

message 33: by Catsalive (new)

Catsalive | 1475 comments I wasn't sure what to put on the ss for Emergency Exit Only. Read a book with a possible escape route on cover/title?

message 34: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. | 311 comments I put what I believe is our plan on the ss under items and took out the word possible on yours Cat because I think we plan to use the emergency exit as our escape route.

Anyone can feel free to change if it doesn't look right.

message 35: by Catsalive (new)

Catsalive | 1475 comments I have a horse on the cover if we need it, or a couple kissing - for distraction purposes maybe, or saliva as a lubricant 😖 (sorry!).
Irish Thoroughbred (Irish Hearts, #1) by Nora Roberts

message 36: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3480 comments Mod
Lol! I love this team and the ideas! We need the horse for sure, since it is our getaway!

I moved the Peacocks to the Security/Guards section since that was going to be a distraction.

I added a knife to our materials in case we need to cut ropes holding the bag or to threaten the guards.

message 37: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3480 comments Mod
I think we each need at least one book in each section, so going to add Catsalive horse book to our materials for now.

message 38: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. | 311 comments Thanks for making these changes Angie! I thought I had already posted but apparently didn't.

I was looking at our ss and saw that we need Disguise, Key or Lock, and Bag. I recently read the following books we can use if we want and think they would work:

Cloak for disguise?: The Ruins of Gorlan (Ranger's Apprentice, #1) by John Flanagan
Red key on cover: The Fear Institute (Johannes Cabal, #3) by Jonathan L. Howard
Suitcases/trunk for bag?: A Ticket to Oblivion (The Railway Detective, #11) by Edward Marston

What about using it as a box to put the flour in? If we use more than one bag then one can be a decoy or we can maybe get some other loot while grabbing the flour?

message 43: by Fi (new)

Fi | 77 comments Love those ideas Rachel! I think using it as a decoy sounds great, I guess I'm less greedy than afraid of being caught. 😄

I've added the above books to our spreadsheet and written out our plan for Step 3. I managed to use all 14 of our book titles in the plan.

It is just a draft and absolutely will not be a masterpiece of any form! LOL! Have a look and if you hate it, no worries, we will scrap it and try again. Or if you want to change anything, just say and we will change it.

I'm sure you have heard No Good Deed goes unpunished. Well, that "No Good" that the bank chose by not returning our "sack of flour" even when we proved it was stolen from us, resulted in this plan to take back what is ours!

The Turned Wyrms got together and decided on a plan to retrieve their precious sack of flour. After much discussion, they decided the best plan was to start out as normal as possible, hoping not to arouse suspicion too early on.

Angie, their Shifter Fighter, will enter the bank as a new customer so that she can keep an eye on the team and provide Salvation in Death should the plan run amuck. She will have her Trophy Hunt knives with her just in case they need to cut ropes holding the flour or threaten the guards or whatever may arise!

Catsalive, their Human Rogue, will be the element of distraction. Her first ploy is to announce that she is on a ”Finder mission”, looking for her special Someone to Kiss, because she was told by a Fairy that she would find them in this very bank today! She even has wine to share with her special someone. She will then flirt with the security guard hoping to have him drink the wine making him loopy and unaware of what is happening around them.

Fi, their Fairy Druid, and Rachel, their Elf Ranger, will enter the bank together. They will be sharing the Cloak of Invisibility, that was taken from The Ruins of Gorlan. Rachel has used the spell of Nondection on Fi, to keep her undetectable throughout the day even from divination and other spells. These two will be seeking out the stolen flour. As they wander through A Series of Rooms in the bank, looking for their target, Catsalive will use her slight of hand to disable the alarms right under the security guard’s nose.

During their exploration, Fi will use a couple of Spellbreaker spells – Dispeal Magic to break any magic spell that is disguising their flour and Locate Object to find their specific bag of flour. Upon finding the vault that is holding their prize, they will use the red key that was found in The Fear Institute to unlock the vault. The flour will be placed in a bag which is A Ticket to Oblivion to keep the flour undetectable. Once they have the flour secure, Rachel will use her Conjure Animals spell to distract the guards and everyone in the bank and to alert the team that they have secured the target. This will be a sight to see as it will seem Murder with Peacocks has been unleased on the bank when the flock of birds appear.

Both teams will make their way to the closest Emergency Exit, only seeking a way out of the chaos of the bank. When they reach the street, they will disappear into An Embrace of Citrus and Snow mount their Irish Thoroughbred and speed away to safety.

This determination, my friends, is just A Girls' Guide to Winning the War!!

Rachel and Fi - you added books and ideas while I was writing. We can add those things, absolutely! But, I may need some help changing the plan to incorporate them!

message 47: by Fi (new)

Fi | 77 comments Omg Angie, that is fantastic!! I was so entertained reading it! Can't believe you got all those titles in, and so well.

I don't want to mess with your masterpiece lol, if we don't need that book that's totally fine, the plan sounds great!

message 48: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. | 311 comments I think it's perfect Angie! I think that No Good Deed is the only book missing from the spreadsheet/plan. I know that the typical saying is "No good deed goes unpunished" and I am trying to figure out where we could put it.

Perhaps the very beginning because the bank didn't want to give it back to us: No Good Deed goes unpunished... Our plan...
