Kelly Kilmurray | 2 comments Does anyone else find this man’s lore INSANE??

“Davidson also released a novel in 2007 named The Fighter. During the course of his research of the novel, Davidson went on a 16-week steroid cycle. To promote the release of the novel, Davidson participated in a fully sanctioned boxing match against Toronto poet Michael Knox at Florida Jack's Boxing Gym; for the novel's subsequent release in the United States, his publisher organized a similar promotional boxing match against Jonathan Ames. Davidson lost both matches.”

This was what I found on his Wikipedia and when I did a deeper dive this man really did do steroids for 16 weeks to research for a book. Also I laughed a bit when I saw he lost both matches. Utterly insane but crazy dedication to be honest.

Emily Weedon | 4 comments Craig/Nick is a great human. He's read at a reading series I do and is just a lovely guy who writes fantastic horror. I recently read and reviewed The Queen which should be in the dictionary under visceral. Davidson does such great research and you can feel the roots of it in what he writes. He also really centres a sense of immediacy on the page. The Queen combines teen angst and insects which appears to be a winning combo.

It's so interesting to me that many friends in the arts lean horror: many of my actor friends, total sweethearts who get stabbed and impaled as bad guys on screen, lol and many of my writer pals are people who are sweet in real life and creep you the hell out on the page.

I didn't know about the match with the poet. I would neither fight physically with a poet nor with words. Either way I would go down lol

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments I've heard of dedication, but you're right, this is absolutely insane. I imagine he got a lot of publicity and people to buy his book after all of it.
