Patty Smith (pinkpurlandprose) | 438 comments Around the World Challenge
Start Date: 01/01/2025
Completed: 12/80

RULES:

1. Anyone can participate in the challenge and can join in at anytime. This is a NO PRESSURE challenge. Basically, you can start your topic under this main heading; (see Beth's post) and track what and WHERE you read. Have fun

2. The object of this challenge is to read books that take place in 80 different countries of the world, of your choosing, starting with your home country. During your journey you would have to visit countries within the following 8 regions: North America, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Oceania/Australia. You are welcome to visit Antarctica during your travels, but this is not required since there are few books from here. It will be counted as both a continent and a country. Some countries can be in more than one geographic setting.

3. It is preferred that books must actually take place within the country; but if you cannot find a book you like; then choosing the author is fine, but they must be based in that country.

4. Some books contain more than one location. It is not required that the entire book take place exclusively in that one country.

5. Re-reads are perfectly acceptable, as are audio books. Books may be in any language.

6. Books can be any length and of any genre.

7. Reporting: Please start a new topic with your name. You will make all updates under your own thread. Please state the region (see #2), the country, the book title, and the author during each new post. Important: You must make a new post with each new addition, bringing your thread to the top of the list

8. We will be moderating, but this is an ongoing challenge. So, no one cares how long it takes to finish. This is an individual sport. This is simply a place to log your ATW challenge separately, get help, and resources.

9. Probably most important: This catalogue of listings will always be here for you. There will be updates, of course, but no yearly changes or challenge. Just a great resource to enhance your reading experience.

**Update:

10. I try to mostly feature native authors; per usual; but will include americans as I see fit. I see quite a few reviews from natives that are offended and disenchanted with non-natives and their depictions of visited areas. So, I try to include mostly natives or those that have shown to be considerate of another culture.

Good Luck and Happy Reading!! 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚

Patty Smith (pinkpurlandprose) | 438 comments I'm counting this as Poland - it is a fantasy book based in "Polnya" but Novik said it was to represent the Poland/Russia conflict. Also the fairy tale it is based on is slavic.
