Mixed opinions on this lol my guilty pleasure for stephen king movie schlock will always be fueled by nostalgia and growing up in the 90s but from the looks of the trailer and the era it’s coming out in, I think it’s taking the good route with adding a some comedy to it
Im stoked! Im a huge Theo James fan and it was this movie coming out that finally pushed me to actually start reading King like ive been meaning to do for a long time now. I understand the movie will not be exactly like the short story, but like I said, I am for whatever this actor is doing. Ha! (That said, i have not watched White Lotus, and dont plan to, but im sure he was great in it lol)
Oz Perkins is a solid director. There’s a good cast and The Monkey has a great set up for a film I’m excited. Not as excited as I am about The Long Walk though.
I loved it as well. Cracking up at nearly every second. Laughing at the jokes, laughing at the ridiculousness, and giggling in between anticipating the next thing to happen. And Perkins was in it too, right? Oh and the theatres selling the monkeys too. Omg! Lol
Went on a date to see it and it was a huge disappointment especially from Oz Perkins— long legs was phenomenal and the monkey just flop horribly. The kills were amazing but the plot was so bad and nonexistent —-it wasn’t good. I hate horror comedies.
I thought it was fun. It obviously steered away from the original story, but I thought that turning it into a dark comedy was awesome. The deaths were so gruesome!
I liked the basic conceit of representing the relentless parade of death that makes up one's life and the varying types of death were always horrible and surprising--the mother's death most of all. But I felt the story itself was somewhat slight, with the bad brother coming in as an adult more toward the end. The last images have stuck with me. I felt the performances were good overall. I was not a fan of Longlegs and preferred this to that movie.
Forgot to say it the other day, but got to see The Monkey on Saturday and it was a lot of fun! Not familiar with the source material, but making the film a dark comedy horror was a good choice. My friend and I were enjoying it from start to finish and even though it was predictable at times, the deaths that is, they were still pretty gruesome! Solid 7/10 rating!
