Happy New Year!

I finished 2024 by finishing a graphic memoir Relish My Life in the Kitchen by Lucy Knisley Relish: My Life in the Kitchen.. I gave it 3 stars. Imagine a graphic memoir with recipes. If you are a foodie, this might be for you.

I started 2025 this morning by reading The Wild Robot Escapes (The Wild Robot, #2) by Peter Brown The Wild Robot Escapes. This is the second of a middle-grade series. I discovered the first in 2024 when I saw it's title on the marquee of our movie theater. Never one to see a movie then read the book... Both were very good, so I have to continue. I just learned a new moniker...I will be a completist of this series if not this author.

It seems that I'm starting 2015 the way I ended 2014 - forgetting to post here. I'm also continuing to be losing what I start putting here (which is usually already long) and coming back to a blank page so...
briefly:
Audio: Lucky Loser How Donald Trump Squandered His Father's Fortune and Created the Illusion of Success by Russ Buettner . I am committed to not let that man take up as much space and time in my life, but, I still have some books in the pipe line. 4-stars.
The Hidden History of the White House Presented by the Hit Podcast American History Tellers An Immersive Exploration of Unseen American History, ... and Perspectives from the White House by Corey Mead The Hidden History of the White House: Presented by the Hit Podcast American History Tellers: An Immersive Exploration of Unseen American History, ... and Perspectives from the White House. Many stories I already knew, but still interesting. 3-stars
You Never Know A Memoir by Tom Selleck You Never Know: A Memoir I never watched Magnum P.I. nor Blue Bloods but Tom Selleck had me at wearing a Detroit Tiger's baseball cap. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this one. 4-stars.
One Day I'll Grow Up and Be a Beautiful Woman A Mother's Story by Abi Maxwell One Day I'll Grow Up and Be a Beautiful Woman: A Mother's Story a heart wrenching story of Booktopia Alumna's journey as her young child determines that she was born in the wrong body. 5-stars.
Read The Hanukkah Magic of Nate Gadol by Arthur A. Levine The Hanukkah Magic of Nate Gadol a fantastical explanation of the custom of Hanukkah's gifts. 4-stars.
When Satan Wore a Cross The Shocking True Story of a Killer Priest by Fred Rosen When Satan Wore a Cross: The Shocking True Story of a Killer Priest is the story that took place in my home town. I remember it. This was the first time that I read a book where I knew people who were named it. My 1-star reading has nothing to do with the number of times the author called Toledo "a back water town." It was just poorly written.
I read Gender Queer A Memoir by Maia Kobabe Gender Queer: A Memoir specifically because it's on so many banned book lists. It's a unbelievably honest exploration of the author's journey of self-identity. 5-star.

I agree about [book:Harlem Rhapsody|212806640]. I was greatly disappointed since I loved The Personal Librarian which she co-wrote.

Read and listened to A Fever in the Heartland The Ku Klux Klan's Plot to Take Over America, and the Woman Who Stopped Them by Timothy Egan A Fever in the Heartland: The Ku Klux Klan's Plot to Take Over America, and the Woman Who Stopped Them a definite 5-star read that has me thinking we haven't changed in 100 years.

Also started by listening but finished by reading (darn those Libby due dates!) Book and Dagger How Scholars and Librarians Became the Unlikely Spies of World War II by Elyse Graham Book and Dagger: How Scholars and Librarians Became the Unlikely Spies of World War II which I gave 3-stars.

Most recently read The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison The Bluest Eye which I gave 5-stars. I now know why this book is on so many banned book lists.

Hey I remembered!

I discovered I have an e-ARC the other night so, I read Big Panda & Tiny Dragon (Big Panda & Tiny Dragon, #1) by James Norbury Big Panda & Tiny Dragon similar to The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse but I liked the latter better. 3-stars.

I just finished listening to His Very Best Jimmy Carter, a Life by Jonathan Alter His Very Best: Jimmy Carter, a Life which, to me, came across as an unbiased biography of our 39th president (warts and all). 5-stars.

Finished Presumed Innocent (Kindle County Legal Thriller, #1) by Scott Turow Presumed Innocent. I read this when it first came out and prior to the first movie that was made based on this book. (The ending was changed for the movie and I did not like that.) I read it this time for a book discussion. I didn't remember that it was quite as graphic as I was surprised to find it this time. I guess I'm getting old. 3-stars.

Julie M (woolyjooly) | 314 comments Reading His Very Best: Jimmy Carter, a Life - quite a long bio by award winning author Jonathan Alter. Good read, but I have only gotten 1/5 of the way through the 670 pp (NOT including bibliography). Guess I'll have to wing it at book group on 2/25 . .

I listened to it at twice the speed, which wasn't hard to understand. Really enjoyed it.

Finished listening to In Gad We Trust A Tell-Some by Josh Gad In Gad We Trust: A Tell-Some written by actor Josh Gad who voices the snowman Olaf in Frozen. Kept my interest because of his time on Broadway and his name-dropping of people who have crossed his path. 3-stars.
