It wasn't my turn for the January nominations, but I always nominate this one at the beginning of the year so we'll be a month late with this topic: mystery/crime/thriller firsts in series.

Nominate any book that begins a mystery/crime/thriller series.

The usual:
You may absolutely NOT nominate your own book, and if your book is the one chosen in the poll, you will be the leader for the discussion.

Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with!!

that would be a good one so I nominate: Open Season by C.J. Box. It's a more idealistic version of the Longmire series but with a game warden as the hero

Tiffi0214 | 2 comments For everyone recommending the Housemaid, this was a group read back in February of 2024, it would be nice to see something else be chosen that maybe hasn’t been done before.

message 12: by Dorothy (new)

Jacqueline (thereaderx1f4da) | 671 comments CBRetriver awesome 👏. I’ve only seen the series on cable and I was hooked. I fell in love with the Joe Pickett character. Fingers crossed 🤞! I know books and shows based on the books can be told differently.

I didn't care as much for the character in the series (probably because he didn't look much like I'd envisioned the character) and Romanowski was not African American in the books but had long blond hair

from an interview with the author:

Nate Romanowski is based on a friend of mine although I’ve exaggerated (Thank God) his personality. The buddy I grew up with was a big blonde middle linebacker who later went on to join the military and special forces. He took me falconry hunting and through him I was introduced to the very strange and fascinating world of falconers and the mindset that goes with it. And, of course, Nate carries one of the largest handguns in the world and he’s good with it.

I agree, why don't those of us who want to discuss that book continue it in this monthly read from February 2024 and chose a book we haven't already read for February 2025?
