Then that's when I woke up, gasping for air like my airways had been crushed under the weight of a brick wall. My body was drenched, the chill of a cold sweat clinging to my skin as I jolted awake. The sheets were damp and uncomfortable, sticking to me in a clammy embrace. Heart racing, I swung my legs over the side of the bed, feeling the cool touch of the wooden floor beneath my feet. I quickly made my way to the bathroom, the urgency pushing me forward. Once inside, I turned on the shower, welcoming the cascade of warm water as it rushed down, washing away the remnants of the unsettling dream that had disturbed my slumber.
