This is my review

♥ Sandi ❣ | 143 comments My edition started out with a long, and I do mean long, introduction before the actual story. The pages were not numbered per se - but in italics and Roman Numerals, so as not to count in page count. It was as long as the story itself. Anyone else run into that?

Cpt. Disco (captaindisco) | 24 comments That's intriguing, Sandi! The introduction in mine is just pages 5 - 9 where Adam Roberts makes a few notes on the invisible man's character and compares the story to other sources. Also numbered in Roman numerals. I'll have to look up what it is you've run into!

that aside, having a blast with this book. It's so much fun and action packed. The main character is someone one would hate being around but is very interesting to learn about on paper. He's so busy living in his own head.
And I love how stark the speech styles are of the characters, can easily tell who is talking.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 143 comments Yes quite strange I think. It took up the first 44 pages of a 150 page book. This is the edition that I got... The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells - with no indication of the long long entry.

Started this book today and my edition starts at chapter 1 The strange man’s arrival. The book has 28 chapters. I hope I’m reading the right book

♥ Sandi ❣ | 143 comments Yes Caroline that is Chapter one for me too - it just follows a reallllly long intro. I am about half way thru the story now.

Mansi | 50 comments First I couldn't figure out that this strange man who is a lodger can be related to the invisible man

Finished. I know I read this book years ago and I am not one to reread books or reread the classics, however I did enjoy rereading this. I also remembered more of the actual story than I thought I would.

My edition was 192 pages long - the first 44 pages were an introduction and the last 12 pages were an appendix. I got about half way through the intro and quit and went to the actual story. However I really appreciated the appendix. Since this was written in 1897 the verbiage is somewhat different then than now. This edition had a blue asterisk behind some words and phrases, that when clicked on took you to the appendix and definition of the word or phrase. Most words you could figure out, but a couple times I was happy for the definitions.

So all in all I enjoyed rereading the book.

Halfway through this book..I found it a bit difficult to get into coz of the language its written in but post the chapter I'm enjoying it so far.

Mansi | 50 comments Yes Caroline ,although it's a British book ,but the grammar and sentence formation is incorrect , probably depicting language of that time .
Its though not difficult to understand.

Initially I was a bit confused as to what was going on but as the chapters are progressing the language it’s written doesn’t matter much.

Mansi | 50 comments I have finished this book.
*SPOILERS*
I first was very interested in how the story was moving. This novel has inspired many other stories and movies across the globe.
I thought he would establish some secret formula about being invisible and let the world know about it towards the end .But as the story progressed towards the end, it dived down (at least to me). There was no science , research or formula left in the end , Griffin had become a criminal ! I thought he would be the great inventor , scientist, who invented such a crucial formula ,but everything just dropped down in negativity at the end and I was so disappointed.
What are your thoughts?

Cpt. Disco (captaindisco) | 24 comments Thoroughly enjoyed the book for all the shenanigans it contained but I agree with Mansi:

(view spoiler)

The Invisible Man was a difficult and peculiar character, tragic in his own unique way.

I just finished reading this book. I wouldn’t
say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s was just fine. I’m not much of a classic read.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 143 comments I am not a classics reader either Caroline. And I don't usually reread books, but it seems I have been doing a lot of that recently between book clubs.

Mansi | 50 comments In the beginning of the book ,it was mentioned that many films worldwide are inspired by this book.
In India,we have a very popular movie 'Mr. India ' which was in the theme of a disappearing man (a very good movie ),although not the same story as the book. I think this theme was taken from the book.
