Witny Lit | 71 comments I am seeking some free beta readers for my novel: Because the Demons Scream So Loudly. The novel is 115k words. It is an epistolary novel- it is written completely in journal/diary format. The novel is a mixed bag of religion/spirituality/romance/vampiric elements/fantasy.

Blurb/Excerpt: Entry 148- I still don't know how I managed it, Holy Sonom Soeht; the mind is indeed a powerful thing. My mind had already started to dissociate as the bleeder ran up to me, pinned me on the ground, and sunk his teeth into my neck. I fixed my eyes on the emerging moon as blood dripped down the back of my neck. The night lights blurred with tears but did not disappear. Not a single muscle of mine moved as he released my neck and stood up. To my shock, the bleeder spoke then as my gaze remained pinned on the sky. “It’s been quite a long time since I drew blood without a fight, and from a god woman to boot.” I heard him pick up my broken cleric chain off the ground. His foot pushed against my still frozen face as he stood over me, dangling my chain from his hand. “Such a shame that misery and naivety are not virtues,” he declared with blood still on his lips. The chain fell on the dirt beside me. As I listened to his footsteps turn and leave me, he hollered, “A word of advice, woman. If I can smell the insincerity on you, don’t you think your omniscient deity can?” I’m not sure how many minutes passed after he left, with me still paralyzed on the ground weeping.

If you are interested in beta reading for me, let me know. If you prefer to e-mail, my e-mail is witny.lit@gmail.com. Please feel free to ask me any additional questions. Thank you so very much for your valuable time in considering it! Happy 2025!

Katy Scharphorn | 8 comments Hello! Not sure this falls within your genre of interest, but I have an 80k first draft CNF/memoir ready for reading. The manuscript is centered around my experience parenting a child diagnosed with cancer. Thank you for considering!

message 11: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 3 comments If you have time I would appreciate if you took a look at my manuscript I’m looking for developmental critique. I’m not a native English speaker so I would also appreciate help with grammar where it’s needed.

Blurb:

Some words are better left forgotten... but what if they're the key to everything?

Wenna thought her life as a book mender in a war-torn city was simple. But when a mysterious book enters her shop—silent where others whisper—she's thrust into the dangerous world of noble Ethers families and ancient magic.

As shadows of the past close in, Wenna must uncover the truth behind her strange powers or risk becoming a pawn in a deadly game. With betrayal lurking at every turn, the fate of her city—and her heart—may rest in her hands.

The Forgotten Words is a spellbinding fantasy about destiny, defiance, and the courage to rewrite your fate.

Rob | 26 comments I am currently seeking Beta Readers for an apocalyptic novel. If you are interested, your feedback would be highly valued, particularly regarding readability and overall enjoyment. While suggestions or comments are welcome, my primary interest lies in understanding your general impression of the book. The manuscript is complete, with a word count of 120,000.

Are you a fan of dark, gritty stories that keep you on the edge of your seat? I’m looking for beta readers for my dark apocalyptic novel, a raw and intense tale centred around two teens fighting for survival in a shattered world.

The story follows their harrowing journey to safety, 130 miles of treacherous terrain, moral dilemmas, and unimaginable dangers. It’s a graphic, emotionally charged narrative that doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of a collapsing society.

If you enjoy stories that blend heart-pounding action with deep character development, I’d love your feedback! Let me know if you’re interested, and I’ll share more details.

Thanks for considering this story. It means a lot to me, and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

I can supply you with the book blurb if this interests you.
Content warning.
Violence
There is some sexual innuendo, no sex scenes, though.
death.

Info.
UK based, UK spelling.
This will not be the first book I have published.
120k.

Rick Borger | 28 comments Are you interested in a fantasy novel for late middle graders? It's a League or Extraordinary Gentlemen for kids with classic fairy tale characters as a 19th century team of superheroes (so there's a hint of steampunk). The source material is darker and more complex than the Disney versions, so my characters have inner and interpersonal conflicts a lot like Marvel characters.
The novel's short, around 41,000 words, but part of a series.

message 24: by Bets (new)

Bets (betsdavies) | 18 comments hey! so good to hear from someone else who is writing and aware of the nerves it gives others. I'm rewriting a book I put in the wrong genre. it should be na/ya coming of age with fantasy. Here is a rough rough description.

I’m Alexandra Graham, I’m eighteen. A new adult, YA fantasy novel, Black Sheep is the first book in the Vorlin trilogy. My dad runs the Exiles—the mob made up of Vorlin exiled from their home world.
I never mean to be a hero. I run. I keep running until my friends and I get caught. My father drags us home.

I run away from home with a weird group of strangers in order to get away from my family. Then I found a new family, and a new home. I grew up with the rich and spoilt in the world of the Exiles criminal masterminds. I only knew about the rich and spoilt part. The criminal part, maybe I assumed some white collar crime was going on, but not in the order of murdering people after removing all their fingers and toes from them when alive. I never would have believed if I hadn’t had to flee school and see Robin’ shot for running.
Robin’s the weird artist kid who crammed too much life in too short a time, but he’s an empath. They’re like that. I’m a telepath. We all have a power we do well. Ryan’s a Firestarter. The home world Vorlin are after Robin to be a reluctant heir. He’s not stopping running anymore than I am.
We’re on a search for Grey Stone—the guy Marcus’s dad found to teach us, but he isn’t so easy to find and we keep running into Exiles on the way. They’re scared of him. Everyone is.
He holds the mirror that joins the two worlds and makes mirror travel possible. Besides being mad powerful, no one wants to hurt Grey Stone for fear the mirror will break, and they’ll lose the way to go home. I don’t care as long as he can teach me how to control sending and receiving thoughts. It’s too powerful, especially with an empath. I’ll lose it. So’ll he.
In the firstr book, we discover what we are, and the things we can do. We track down a book of info that helps us figure out to find Grey Stone. Ryan’s friends try to chase us down. Right when it looks like we’re getting free, those of the home Vorlin who don’t want Robin to be heir come to kill him. Ryan crisps one to death instead.
By the in of the book, we’ve made it as far as finding Grey Stone’s home in Mississippi, but he isn’t there. We decide to wait it out till we know how to find him. Until then, they’re afraid to come get us.
The last of the Vorlin we run into is Tom—my boyfriend. Even before we ran, I realized I didn’t want to be his baby aymore, but he’s all I’ve ever had besides daddy’s world, and I’m afraid to be anything else. All the same, we run from him too when I realize what I have is my new friends, and perhaps something more in Robin.

Thanks for your time. you can catch me at betsdavies@comcast.net

message 45: by Mathew (new)

Mathew | 11 comments Greetings Olga

Hi! I’m looking for beta readers for my completed fantasy novel, Coalfire Chronicles: Echoes of the Past.

It’s a 104,000-word epic fantasy with rich character development, found-family dynamics, and a thread of time-bending magic. Set in the fractured land of Coraxia—where magic is outlawed and ancient threats are awakening—the story follows a weary paladin, his rebellious half-elven son, a masked barbarian, a pirate-turned-priest, and a fledgling mage as they uncover secrets that could unravel their world.

I’m looking for honest, thoughtful feedback on pacing, clarity, worldbuilding, character arcs, and overall engagement. The manuscript is available as a PDF. If you enjoy emotionally grounded fantasy with high stakes and flawed, evolving heroes—I’d love your help!

You can reach me at hazmat9000@yahoo.com.

Thanks in advanced,

Mat

message 47: by Forrest (new)

Forrest | 11 comments Hello Olga! I am looking for Beta Readers to look into my 115k word debut novel, Usurper’s Crown. Usurper’s Crown is a twisted coming of age fantasy novel that follows a young Prince Alaric Frall’s evolution from boy to man. My project has been through several rounds of editing and thus should (hopefully) be fairly polished. This book covers lots of dark themes, with extreme insight on severe mental illness and violence. It is not a happy book. You have been warned!

Prince Alaric Frall has lived his entire life destined to inherit the richest of Watree’s five kingdoms. Starsign, his home, has ever been a brethren state to the Emperors of Alern. Alongside the Emperor’s son, Crown Prince Brutus, Alaric has spent his days in debauchery- drinking, whoring, and chasing his hopeless love interest, Princess Thalia of the East. But when Alaric’s father grows tired of his degeneracy, and Alaric’s crown is threatened, he must make friends in a city where none can be trusted…

Thrones and crowns change hands like coppers in a brothel, and friends are spent just the same. Alaric’s story is one of espionage and revenge, one of love and regret. By the end of it all, the line between right and wrong has been trod upon so frequently not even Alaric knows where it once stood.

My email is forrestc405@gmail.com. I can send the PDF over if you're interested!

Mostly I’m looking to see how this book is received from a reader’s perspective, though pacing is one specific thing I’ve struggled to find in my own work. Any input on that would be greatly appreciated, but any input on anything works. Below is a list of questions answerable if you’d like extra direction, but feel free to ignore if it’s not helpful.

-Are the decisions made by the main characters believable?
-Do the stakes feel grand and real?
-Can you sympathize with Alaric?
-How predictable are the twists?
-What parts drag, or speed up past easy comprehension?
-During your first reading session, when did you stop reading?
-How eagerly are you finding yourself ‘turning the pages’?
