I know previously we have just had people create individual threads for themselves when they are new but it seems those threads were barely being used so I think just one thread for introductions will be sufficient.

So whether you are:

- a brand new member
-a member who has just never posted but has been in the group for a while
or
-if you are a long time member but just feel like making an introduction because there are a ton of new people

..feel free to tell us a little bit about yourself..why you joined the group..your favorite books..etc.

I decided I'll go first! I'm by no means a new member..obviously I created the group :) However, I feel there are soo many new members that I'd like to introduce myself again.

I'm Jamie. I live outside of Philadelphia. I'm 24 years old and graduated college this past December with my B.S. in Business Administration. I'm planning on going back to school soon for fashion marketing because that is where my true love lies within the business world. I love all the creative aspects..marketing, advertising, PR. and I love fashion..so it seems logical for me :) I've found the love of my life and it will be 3 years in January. We are pretty much polar opposites but it works so well for us. Aside from reading and fashion, I love music, art, and writing. I can't play an instrument or do anything artistic but I sure can appreciate the hell out of it. :)

I think that's about it for now!

I look forward to getting to know all of you newer members!

jessi (infinitevantage) | 157 comments I'm Jessi. I am 22 and I live in Cincinnati. My major is political science, and I will be graduating from UC soon, and then I will be getting my certification to teach at a Montessori and then I will be going on to grad school (probably at OSU).

I am a vegetarian, liberal, atheist lesbian. I have also been with the love of my life for about 3 years (it was 3 years in June).

I love football (even though the Bengals kinda suck), video games, soccer, music, kitties, cooking, and reading (of course!). My favorite books are Harry Potter, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Of Mice and Men, Cat's Cradle, and Animal Farm.

message 4: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie | 58 comments I'm Chrissie; I'm 24 and I live in San Diego. I graduated with a BS in Music Industry from Northeastern in Boston in December of 2007, and I'm currently a 2nd year law student at San Diego.

I like tennis, fashion, dance parties, good beer bars, the ocean, traveling, and shows. I've been trying to see at least one concert a week (Grizzly Bear & Beach House a couple days ago, Shostakovich Symphony No. 10 the Friday before that.. I'm working on finding the free time + someone to go with). I traveled to London, Paris & Italy this summer.

I don't watch television or movies; I stick to books. I prefer short stories, since I always have to put the book down for one reason or another. My favorite short story writer is Raymond Carver.

Studying law has basically consumed my life right now, so nothing really interesting to talk about for me!

I traveled to Paris, London, and Italy 3 summers ago. It was one of the best times of my whole entire life! Where in Italy did you go? i went to Rome and Florence.

Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl.com (miss_jana) | 125 comments I'm Jana and I live in Northern Utah. I'm 22 and am going to college for art. I'll be graduating in December 2009 with my B.S. in Art and Visual Communications with a double emphasis in both graphic design and art history. I love both, but have more of a passion for art history. I'm also a singer and perform with a small-ish group. We tour every spring and put on pageants and concerts throughout the year, as well as provide musical numbers for local and international television broadcasts. Music and art are my life, but I've rekindled my passion for reading over the past few years. I love clean romances, mystery, suspense, etc.

That's me! Not sure what else to say... lol. I'm in the process of planning an art tour of Europe with a friend and we're scheduled to go in 2011!

Wild for Wilde (wildforwilde) | 22 comments I'm Mary. I graduated in May of this year with an Art History degree. Working 2 part-time jobs, one in retail and one in marketing. May take a 3rd job since still not making enough. Dream of working for Southpark or an art auction house someday. Also hope to write novels and be published. I love reading classics and mysteries the best. Love dark chocolate, traveling, watching movies, and bubble baths.

message 14: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments I'm Jen. I'm 23 and I live in Rhode Island. I'm still in school working on getting my Master's in Event Leadership. I still live with my parents and little brother. I have two silly cats, each with their own disinct personality. I love fruit more than vegetables (I've been on an orange kick lately). I take way too many pictures of everything, I drink lots of coffee and tea, and I am jealous of all of you who have been to Europe. :)

I have recently "rediscovered" my love for reading. I wasn't much of a reader in high school and in undergrad...required reading and textbooks turned me off to reading!

Welcome Jen! I was the same way..I rediscovered my love for reading after high school and my undergrad. I'm so sad that I wasted all that time not really reading books!

Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl.com (miss_jana) | 125 comments Very cool, Kimberly! Small world!

I love dark chocolate too. :) Maybe a little too much!

I love reading about everyone on here. :) This group is actually active. Very fun!

It was always funny because in college my roommates all hated dark chocolate..so everyctime they would get a bunch of chocolate or anything I was always raking in the dark chocolates.

message 18: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I love dark chocolate. Most of my family does too, everytime we go camping we always get dark chocolate peanut M&Ms. Yummy. :)

message 19: by Cierra (new)

Cierra (cierrab) Hello. I'm Cierra and I am a sociology major in Louisville, Ky. Like a couple of others on this thread I rediscovered my love for reading after high school as well, although I am still in undergrad. I have finally figured out how to juggle reading for school and leisure this semester. I use to feel really guilty when I would read something non-school related because I felt I could be spending that time to do school reading, but I now manage my time well.

message 20: by Wild for Wilde (new)

Wild for Wilde (wildforwilde) | 22 comments Dark chocolate is healthier too! Anyone else in the Godiva rewards club? It's free to join and you earn points towards getting free chocolate. You also get one free chocolate per month!

message 21: by Annie (new)

Annie Hartman (anniebananie) | 242 comments I thought I was the only freak who liked dark chocolate! My family always picks on me!

Im not new either.. Ive been around for about a year and I love this site!
Im Annie. Im 20 and from northern Vermont- 5 miles from Quebec and I cant speak a lick of French! Im a junior at Castleton State in central Vermont. I am a communication major with a double concentration in journalism and PR and a minor in Women's Studies.
I LOVE the Yankees (and catch grief for it all the time) and I LOVE the Colts.
I love to read, write, play dress up with all the clothes in my closet, watch and play sports (I played college softball for a year but got too busy with school :(
Still undecided about what I want to do after I graduate.. work or grad school? hmm.. TBA :)

message 23: by Erin (new)

Erin I'm Erin. I'm 26 and live in the southwestern Chicago suburbs (although people here call them the "western suburbs," it's not geographically correct). I went to Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois and earned a BA in history and secondary education and minored in psychology. I'm in my 4th year of teaching high school social studies - primarily juniors and seniors in Psychology and American Government.

Reading is my way to unwind from work, and I always make sure to read for an hour every night before I fall asleep. I also used to feel guilty about reading for fun, but I then decided it was really a matter of keeping myself sane! :) Right now I'm trying to balance reading for fun with reading for grad school - I'm slowly working towards a masters in history at Northern Illinois University.

I love the Chicago Bears, but after watching their trouncing by the Bengals last Sunday (and everything else we've experienced these last few years), I'm seriously considering becoming a Broncos fan. I liked Kyle Orton when he played for the Bears, and I wouldn't have to completely change my Sunday wardrobes!

message 25: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) I'm Justine (I like we all say that though about 90% of us have our actual names as our GR handle and it's right up there), I'm 23 and live in Salinas, CA. I spent the first twenty something years of my life in San Diego. I was very briefly a college students but have it up. I am currently trying to find time for all of my hobbies (reading, knitting, learning the ukulele, photography, watching TV shows I never watched watched when they were on on DVD, seeing indie films at the tiny theater, eating breakfast for lunch, and internet addiction). I'm preparing for a long life as a cat lady with little support from my boyfriend who draws the line at two, but I feel like 15 is actually the correct amount of cats to have.

message 26: by Mark (new)

Mark Sullivan (marksul) Hello! My name is Mark Sullivan and I am from Ottawa, Canada. I am 21 years old, and am working towards a Bachelor of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. When I am not reading or solving math problems, I like to play the guitar and harmonica. Balancing reading with school has always been a challenge, though I have found a pretty good rhythm as of late!

message 27: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
Welcome Mark! I have to say that I have a friend who plays harmonica and I'm so impressed by people that can play! So..what's your secret rhythm to balance school and reading? I'm sure alot of people would love to know! It's always been a struggle for me personally.

message 28: by Mark (new)

Mark Sullivan (marksul) It's a huge struggle! Though I think I'm lucky because I am in math - I am not doing too much reading in school anyways. The secret for me is just to use reading as a study break (though for those people in other faculties, I doubt even more reading would do the trick).

message 29: by Emily (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments Hey Mark.
I bet that it would be harder for English majors (or any social science really) to find a good reading rhythm. I bet they just need a break from reading after all the school work they have to do. I know that as a music major, when I get home the last thing I want to do is listen to more music. For awhile I just sit and relax and don't think about a note. I guess it's good that you're a math major then. You don't get tired of reading or playing! And btw: harmonica is awesome.

I used to work for Collages.net which is site for professional photographers to host their events and also order products and prints..so I really began to love photography and loved talking to the photographers on the phone..well minus the really mean ones.

message 36: by Mia (new)

Mia (miapalooza) Hey all!

Name's Mia. Just graduated from Boston University. I'm a 22-year-old who now resides with my parents in Texas. Good times. Thanks to my choice of major (Journalism) and the current economic climate, I have a lot of free time on my hands so now I actually get to read fun stuff that I want to read rather than some of the sludge I was forced to read in college. First and foremost, I love chick-lit, but I also have a great appreciation for the classics. I was recently talked into reading the Twilight series, so, against my own wishes, I'm thoroughly engrossed in that right now. I also just checked out The Handmaid's Tale at the suggestion of this very book club so looking forward to that as well. Any questions? Just ask!

Hey Mia! Congrats on graduating! And welcome to the group! I graduated in December of last year and I'm in the same boat with the job thing! It sucks so bad right now! I'm just working retail for the time being. Hopefully you'll find something!

message 38: by Lyka (new)

Lyka Walton | 7 comments Hola, my name is Lyka! I currently live in TX and am in my final year at Midwestern State University. My major is psychology and my minor is business administration. Currently I'm taking American Literature which is where most of my reading is stemming from this semester, but I LOVE that class. On the side I'm reading a book with Kate Chopin's short stories and will soon start The Awakening.

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments Hi Lyka. It's nice to meet you. I thought of majoring in psychology for the longest time. I'm taking a psych class now and I love it. What kind of books are you reading in American Lit? My American Lit class was really bad so I feel like I missed out on all the good books that everyone else read.

Alessia (allieonthemoon) Hi everyone!
I'm brand new to the site and the group too (like you Matt!)
Anyway I'm Allie (Alessia, actually), 27 years old and from Palermo, Italy. I'm in my final year at Medical School. When I'm not studying or doing my internship at the hospital I love reading (especially fiction books especially English and Italian Literature), going to concerts and to the movies and traveling. I found this group while looking for The Unbearable Lightness of Being, I was trying to decide wether to read it or not...I think I'll start it now, even if by the time I'm finished you'll probably be already reading next book :P

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
Welcome Alessia!! I'm so jealous you live in Italy. I went to Florence and Rome a couple of summers ago and I fell in love!

You should definitely start it! I know there will be people still willing to talk about it even if it's after the month we read it in. I know I will be! :)

message 47: by Alessia (new)

Alessia (allieonthemoon) Thank you Jamie! Well, you know, my city is not exactly like Rome: Rome is unique, it's my favourite city in the world. Besides, living in southern italy has tons of disadvantages, especially if you live in an island like Sicily...you're quite cut off. Anyway I don't think this is the right place for ranting :)

Hope to talk to you soon about The Unbearable Lightness!
