Trike | 11190 comments Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of any older SF books set in 2025? Written before 2000, say.

These are the ones I know about (✅ = I’ve read them):

334 - Thomas M. Disch ✅
Parable of the Sower - Octavia Butler ✅
Titan - John Varley ✅
The Running Man - Richard Bachman (aka Stephen King) ✅
The Lake at the End of the World - Caroline MacDonald
A Friend of the Earth - T.C. Boyle
The Listeners - James E. Gunn
Orbital Resonance - John Barnes

None of mine are published before 2000. I think you got most of the main ones.

Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge
Twilight's Last Gleaming by John Michael Greer
The Peshawar Lancers by S.M. Stirling
The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell One of the 6 sections is in 2025.

Clyde (wishamc) | 571 comments OK, time for an update.

Just finished:
- Death's Door by James R. Benn (My last of '24 -- Another good WW2 crime/historical read.)
- Tin Cans and Greyhounds: The Destroyers that Won Two World Wars by Clint Johnson (My first of '25 -- Pretty much what the title says.)
Both solid 4 star reads for me.

Now reading:
- Anathem by Neal Stephenson (ebook)
- The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley (Audio)
