Horror Aficionados discussion

I was hoping to get some recommendations for a very specific element of a "haunted" horror story, (so, haunted house, haunted ship, haunted forest...you get the idea). My favorite thing in a haunted book or movie is the history of the dead moments, for example in 1408 (story & film) I love the breakdown of all the people who died in the room. A better example is the September House, where the history of the house and the many ghosts in it, are slowly revealed for each gruesome, yet interesting one. Best example, although NOT a book, AHS season 1 has the best ghost back stories slowly revealed. I'd like to find more books like that, and especially one that has a lot more of that type of history of a place in it, in both these books it's only a small part of the story. (Also, if you just happen to have a haunted novel you really love I would also like those suggestions as well as I'm always into either creepy or interesting haunted horror. Thank you!!
