Practical Colour Cover Guide
The general agreement on colours is that
🚀 we use our eyes and common sense
🚀 in case you are uncertain about the colour percentage, you can use Tineye to verify if it's over 50% (avoid using TinEye to figure out what colour it is)
🚀 When in doubt whether a cover is one colour or another, please consult us. We may take this to the Captains' group for a final decision.
Important Information
🚀Only books STARTED after the challenge begins can count. The challenge starts on 1 February 2025 at 9am UTC time. To see when this is in your time zone, use this Countdown: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...
Saturday 1 February 2025

London 9am
New York 4am
Mumbai 2.30pm
Tokyo 6pm
Sydney 8pm

🚀Your finished books need to be on your Uno shelf AND marked as "read" with the Date Started and Date Finished information for them to count.
🚀Please make notes of how your book may count. The more options we have the better! (Letters used in UNO are Z,O,T,H,F,I,V,E,S,N,K,P and of course if another team member has read the book before. The Team Tracker spreadsheet can be used for this (see above for link).
🚀For coloured cards, the cover needs to be 50% or more of the colour. If in doubt, ask your captains as we can check it and/or take to the captains group for another opinion. Here are some suggestions: (remember that you have to read the specific edition)
UNO Red
UNO Blue
UNO Green
UNO Yellow
🚀Don't worry if you're playing for the first time - it's much easier than you'd think. And your team is always here to help!
🚀Most importantly, enjoy your reading and have fun!

I'm Insiyah, your captain for this round of UNO. This is my fifth year playing, so I've been around for some of the twists and turns this game has taken over the years. I live in Dubai, so I'm in time zone GMT+4:00.
I read a bit of everything other than self-help, but I gravitate mostly towards historical fiction and classics, literary fiction, and fantasy.
If this is your first year playing, please read the information in message 4 and take a look at the tracking spreadsheet. Don't be worried - once February arrives and we start playing, you'll quickly understand how it works.
To start with, let's all go around and introduce ourselves! You can introduce yourself with your name, location, favourite books/genre, least favourite books/genre, and anything else you'd like to mention. Please also link your UNO shelf to your introduction post.
Shelf name: uno_2025

I’m Lori. I live in Cambridgeshire in England but used to live in London and Glasgow. So, I’m GMT.
I read a lot of genres but mostly mysteries and fantasy. Not a fan of romance and although I enjoy non-fiction I tend not to read it much as it takes me longer.
It’s my first time playing UNO. Really looking forward to it.

I'm Diana, and I currently live in Lisbon! I spent three years in London before moving back to my home country. :) I've been playing UNO since 2018, and this is the only challenge I'm part of. I have a very cute dog and way too many hobbies to juggle alongside a very stressful job. I usually read fiction, mostly contemporary, but with a few classics in between, mysteries, and romances. When I read non-fiction, it's typically about mathematics (and it takes me too long because I am too meticulous) or biographies.
This is my shelf: uno-2025.

I'm Tefek, I live in Tehran. This is my 5th year playing UNO.
I usually read fiction and enjoy classics.
My shelf:UNO 2025

So far it looks like three of us have lived in London - I was there around a year ago as well :)
Diana, what kind of books do you read about mathematics? I've been wanting to restart learning maths again (gave it up in school as quickly as I could because I HATED it, but now I'm regretting that decision a bit).

My name is Hiba and I currently live in Muscat, Oman. I played UNO a really long time ago, but after having kids I would always miss the sign up date. The kids are a little older so I'm so excited to be able to play again.
I enjoy reading most genres but for some reason can't seem to stomach anthologies and poetry(I'm starting to try it again now that I'm older)

I don't know if that's the way it's suppose to work

Hi Hiba! Glad you're able to come back to UNO.
Your link is fine, I just needed the URL :)

- Take a look at the spreadsheet. It's linked in message 4 as well. If you're not comfortable working with spreadsheets, you can post in this group as well and one of us will take care of adding it to the spreadsheet.
- Feel free to start planning on what books you want to read, and if your book fits a coloured card, you can claim it by putting in your book name and your name in the spreadsheet.

I am a mathematician :) I am reading the books of the "Our mathematical world" series from National Geographic (the subjects vary a lot!), but every time I read the statement of a theorem I have to pause reading and prove it, hence for some books it takes me ages to finish. I have heard wonderful things about Humble Pi: A Comedy of Maths Errors and I can recommend The Number Devil: A Mathematical Adventure for some fun facts!

We're still waiting for two members to check in. In the meantime, if you have any books that match the below cards, you can claim them on here in this thread or on the spreadsheet :)

Sorry for the late response. Found the thread days ago, but I was busy with RL. Wish I could read books all the time and not worry about work and other RL annoyances :D
Anyhow. My name is Maddy, I live in Latvia, Europe.
I have played UNO on and off for a couple years.
I read whatever catches my attention, but mostly stick to murder mysteries and MM romance.

I am not a fan of the whole "claiming tasks" thing, so if you don't mind, I will just read and add my books and you can fit them wherever ;)
Also, I will probably be missing in the first half of February. I will message the details to the captain.

My name is Mia, and I live in Norway ^^
I've never played UNO before, but I have participated in some other goodreads team challenges.
I'm currently a student, studying to become an experience counselor.
I read all genres, some more than others though. There are good books in every genre, culture and time period. Mostly read literary fiction, fantasy and non-fiction. ( and a lot of webtoons, manga )

I read about 10-20 books a month, so i'll take whatever tasks people don't want :)

And with that, we're all checked in!!!! YAY!!
So, I've been in a reading frenzy the past few days because I have all these books I want to finish before Feb comes up. Anyone in a similar mood?

Looking forward to Challenge start!

I want to finish reading the books I have started... But sadly I have zero mood for those. It's a terrible situation. I just want to read the books for uno and have to wait (impatiently :)).

Either way, two and a half days to go!!!!!

I'm going to start Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries soon and can use it for Reverse.

I'm really excited to read it!! I'm trying to finish up my library books first so I can return them, but then I have that one coming up and I can barely wait!

I'm hoping to read this one soon as well! I picked up a copy from the library's sales shelf and it's been sitting on my bookshelf and calling out to me

i've completed 7 books for the challenge.
Onyx Storm
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind
Homo Deus: A History of Tomorrow
Wake Up and Open Your Eyes
Wild Wild Quest
Flex in the City
Of Slicing Men
i'll try to fit them into the google sheet.
