We are excited to announce our upcoming February (2025) Book of the Month (BOTM) readathon! As we prepare for it, we invite all members to contribute their book suggestions.

We are particularly interested in titles that celebrate Desi heritage, featuring South Asian character or themes. Whether it’s a novel, poetry, or even a graphic novel, all recommendations are welcome!

How to Submit Your Suggestions :
1. List out your book titles along with a brief description (1-2 sentences) in brackets explaining why you think it would be a great choice. (note: explanation is optional)
2. Include the link to the book's page.

Once we gather all the suggestions, we will hold a vote to select our final read for February.

Thank you for your participation, and we look forward to your recommendations.

deanna k. | 4 comments 1. What Lies Between Us a Sri Lankan woman leaves her home country but never lets it leave her; focuses on toxic familial & cultural traditions, childhood trauma, and the loneliness that comes with being part of a diaspora.
2. The Rice Mother follows 4 generations of women, whose matriarch is a Ceylonese woman who moves to Malaysia after marriage
3. She Drives Me Crazy sapphic HS romcom :D not a masterpiece and the rep isn't anything groundbreaking but it's a cute, easy read and features an Indian lesbian !
4. Song of the Sun God centers on the Sri Lankan Civil War, and its long-term effects on multiple generations of Tamils forced to leave due to the violence and turmoil.
5. Wave a beautiful memoir about grief, written by a Sri Lankan woman who lost her entire family to the 2004 tsunami

for all of these except 3. i'd recommend checking TWs first as they deal with a lot of heavy topics such as SA & child marriage, especially The Rice Mother
