Hanna Andreen | 1 comments I just started re-reading this masterpiece (read it first time in 2019) but this time out loud with my partner. It occurred to me quite shortly into the book that it comes off as rather funny when read out loud. It got a completely new dimension to it, and I love it! When read silently I rather experienced it as pretty dark-toned.

Anyone with a similar experience? Other thoughts? I’m curious to know what you guys think :)

It has been a while since I read the book, but I remember being drawn in by the whimsical nature of the book. For me, the humor came from the off-beatness of the book.

Arielle Miller | 8 comments Oh that's interesting... I really have to reread. I *know* it's my very favorite of his books, but I barely remember it I read it so long ago...

I will say though that I've listened to several of his novels on audible and I find it really hard to concentrate and keep up with the story... anyone else experience this? I'm listening to the City and its Uncertain Walls right now, but I think this will be my last audible of HM books...

The only book I really struggled with was "Hardboiled Wonderland". I'm reading 1Q84 for a third time. It's kind of like visiting an old friend.

I really need to reread Hardboiled Wonderland... I don't remember it at all!

Maybe we can cycle around on group reads after End of the World and perhaps Novelist as a Vocation. Soon I will post a nomination thread so that we all can leave our thoughts on future group reads for those who might be interested it them.
