Sam is reminded that Skip used to carry a messenger bag with him at all times and doesn’t remember seeing it after he was shot. She learns from the attending EMT that he not only remembered it but gave it to Conklin. That makes two witnesses who recalled seeing him at the scene. Was this the moment that you no longer had any doubts about his culpability? Did you have any concerns at the time for the two witnesses?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I had no doubts about Conklin; this information solidified my feelings. I was worried that both witnesses would be murdered.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I wondered why no one missed that bag when he was shot if he always had it with him. Having the EMT say Conklin was at the scene just nailed it for me. He was dirty and up to his neck in the deed or at the least a cover up. I was concerned for their safety too.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1803 comments The case was just one convenient coincidence after another. The forgotten messenger bag, the witnesses who appear out of the woodwork, the formerly good cop who is suddenly corrupt - all of it feels contrived. I'm not a fan of the way Force resolved this storyline.

There are also a couple of loose threads, like the house mentioned in a previous book where photos of Skip were found - this was never answered.
