Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1749 comments Just a heads up. It looks like if you only have a newer Kindle you can't use the "download and transfer with USB" function anymore. It's not everywhere (yet), but it's implemented on Amazon US and also the Dutch Amazon.

I now use a Kobo, but since Amazon has a bigger library than Kobo I would buy my books from Amazon, download it into Calibre (with the help of Alf) and then transfer it to my Kobo. Also I like to have a copy in my Calibre library. I still have a Kindle, but it's a newer one and I can't download books on there and transfer it to Calibre to then transfer it to my Kobo.

So later today I'll have to figure out how ePub nowadays works and do some tests.

This sucks.

Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1749 comments It seems customers of some countries are getting emails announcing the change, from the 26th. I never got that email.

I bought a book on Kobo and I eventually got it in Calibre. But it's a bit a fuss to do so.

Biggest downside is that I won't be able to get books of several smaller authors I like (e.g. Bill Thompson and Lee Mountford), so I won't be able to continue their series unless I read on my Kindle and won't mind not being able to add the books to my library. I'll have to think about that.

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments That sucks. I kind of stopped using e-reading outside of occasionally on my phone now.

Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1749 comments I almost exclusively read eBooks. Since I read English books it's just easier to get them. I'm not dependent if a bookstore (physical store or online) has the book in stock or can order it quickly. It's also cheaper for me.

It turns out that I didn't have access to download my books on Amazon is because somehow all my Kindles were removed. I reregistered the one I still have and now I can download again until the 26th. So I might just buy all the Haunted series by Lee Mountford I haven't got yet.

I transferred wishlist to Kobo. Most books are available, except for a couple of smaller authors. Such as Lee Mountford, Tamara Thorne, Alistair Cross, Bill Thompson (though he sells his books on his own website). So I'll miss those until, hopefully, a way will be found to transfer and de-DRM books from a Kindle into Calibre. I'll keep my old Kindle (it's got a bit of a manky USB port) just in case.
