Rob | 2 comments Greetings!

Would you be interested in beta reading my Lit Fic thriller?

Joe Kline is just 11 years old when his family joins a small church in Dayton, Ohio—a decision that will forever alter their lives. Tom, the charismatic leader of the church, preaches that America is Babylon and convinces his followers to flee with him to East Africa. While Joe’s father resists Pastor Tom’s influence, believing his teachings to be dangerous, Joe’s mother wholeheartedly embraces the isolation, the rules, and the unquestioning obedience demanded by the pastor. Torn between his parents, Joe desperately tries everything he can think of to prevent his mother’s devotion to the church from tearing the family apart.

But when his final, desperate act to save his family leads to unimaginable tragedy, Joe finds himself on an international quest a few years later to uncover the truth about what really happened to his mother and brothers—and confront the dark secrets which led to their demise.

Thank you!

Robert

message 9: by Portakin (new)

Portakin | 1 comments Hey there. I have finished a Sci-fi epic (120k) that's in its early manuscript stages after several years of off and on work. Already started the second book as well.

Generation is about Cosmic apotheosis where the universe becomes self-aware (in an aim to ascend to godhood) has a consciousness and communicates through its memories and a quantum field called "Manna" that facilitates magic by those who can channel it: "Orchestrates".

First book puts a lot of plot together around its protagonist pair, Chris and Neo and their early training archs as they come into contact with one of the Goddesses -- Daisy, and her guardians, Mathew, and Psi

If you're not swamped already, let me send you a link.

Thx
-J

Caela Gemma | 27 comments Hi! I'm in the process of writing a fantasy/sci-fi and would love your input. I have less than 20k words.

Mint Bluefield, a brilliant yet socially awkward teen from the sky kingdom of Aurelia, descends to the mysterious groundlands on a mission—to find a genius engineer who can stop a reality-shattering catastrophe. But the world below is nothing like the laboratories and logic-driven minds she’s used to. Here, there are a variety of people and sinister entities.

Her search takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with a cunning merchant—charming on the surface but hungry for power beneath. As his grip tightens and his ambitions spiral toward world domination, Mint realizes she’s caught in something far bigger than a simple repair job. With time running out, she must outsmart the merchant, track down the elusive engineer, and unravel the mysteries of the human heart—learning that love comes in many forms, and not all of them are as easy to understand as science.

Are you still available to read a few more manuscripts?

message 12: by Lemzer (new)

Lemzer | 9 comments of course! the other writers that i am currently beta reading don't have a deadline so I am not pressured and use most of my time reading.

I am very interested to know more about your story. send it to my email address when you can.

message 13: by Kaley (new)

Kaley | 40 comments Hi there! I have a completed 156k word fantasy book I haven't been able to get many eyes on yet. First writing piece I've ever completed and could use feedback!

600 years ago, the Elven Queen of Aurellon was murdered by her human partner after she banned him for lying with another woman. Using her dying breaths, she laid a curse across the continent that she would one day return to seek vengeance on all souls like Sebastian. Her elves were turned into horrid beasts, compelled to roam the lands until her return.

Today, a young witch named Lenore is living a peaceful life unbothered in her cozy, woodland cottage, away from ghastly monsters. After moving there at 18 some years ago because her powers were never strong enough to be a true healer, she uses simple cures and treatments she creates from ingredients in the forest. The nearby locals were fond enough to let her remain there.

One rainy, fateful day, three strangers storm her cottage to heal one of their wounded. Lenore’s world is flipped upside down as she is dragged into helping them search for an end to the 600 year curse, if only to ensure her family's survival.

In their quest for the cursed queen, Lenore discovers many truths about herself and the long lost city of Aurellon. She discovers she now carries a target on her back from brotherhood witch hunters and power hungry priestesses. She is forced to find her strength and her power to overcome anything in order to save the ones she loves and hates.

I am interested in a general overview critique on characters, plot, world building, flow, etc.

Hello, Lemzer, I'm Matt Manochio, and I've written a comedic fantasy called First Krampus Night. It's 86,500 words. I've never asked anyone to ever read any of my work before it's published, but I figure you might be a good choice as you like fantasy and comedy.
Let me know if you're interested. I can send you a Word copy, if that's easiest. Please let me know how this works on your end. Matt Manochio
I've linked so you know who I am and what I've written in the past.
Thank you!

If you are interested, please let me know and I'll send you the manuscript.

Here is the blurb:

message 19: by Marlissa (new)

Marlissa Cunningham | 2 comments Would you be interested in a 90k word completed romance fantasy?

In a land divided by centuries of war and distrust, an elven princess and a human prince are the last hope for peace — or the spark that ignites another war.

Princess Elissa of Treiaul has never fit the mold of royal perfection. She prefers the forest to the throne room, her bow to the delicate trappings of court life. But when Prince Hayward of Aasleagh arrives to negotiate a fragile peace treaty, she’s ordered to play the gracious host to the human she’s been raised to despise.

Hayward is no stranger to being underestimated — the youngest of his brothers and a seasoned soldier, he’s spent his life carving out a place for himself. He enters elven territory with low expectations and party of men mostly chosen by his father who he doesn’t trust, prepared to endure the cold shoulder of a princess who sees him as the enemy.

But what neither of them anticipates is the undeniable pull between them. Their sharp words turn into lingering glances, and every clash of wills ignites something far more dangerous than hatred. As their chemistry simmers, Hayward becomes the unexpected catalyst for Elissa to embrace her wild heart and for her people to see the looming human threat for what it truly is.
With tensions rising and kingdoms on the brink of war, their forbidden connection might either shatter the fragile hope of peace — or forge a love powerful enough to change the fate of their realms forever.

Shayla | 6 comments Hi, I am looking for beta readers for my paranormal fantasy, Blood Glamours, which is complete at 110,000 words. I’m looking for typical early beta reader notes on anything from plot structure, character development and dialogue, pacing, world-building, style/tone and overall thoughts on my story and writing.

Here’s my blurb for more context:

Life as a smuggler suited Deyl Parker very well—until one bad decision put thousands of fae lives at risk.

For two centuries, war between humans and fae has ravaged North America. While humans cower inside their walled-in mega-cities, the military’s Hunters scour the lands between for all that remains of the fae. Against this backdrop of fear and strife, Deyl and her partner Logan—protected by her unique magic—have made a lucrative living smuggling supplies into fae hands.

Their most valuable export? Blood glamours—a blend of Deyl’s distinctive magic and Logan’s science, and the only substance capable of fooling the Hunters’ blood signature tests. For the fae living in hiding, these are priceless. Logan, however, wanted more. When he begins selling blood glamours to the Resistance, he leads the Hunters straight to them—and gets captured in the process.

Logan knows far too much. If the Hunters break him, they’ll uncover the location of thousands of hidden fae—and learn far too much about Deyl herself. To save him, she must trade in her smuggling shoes for combat boots, and join forces with a Resistance wolf shifter, an elf with broken magic, and a mage too smart for his own good. Their mission is reckless, possibly suicidal—but Deyl has no choice. Because if Logan talks, it’ll spell the end for all faekind.

Please let me know if you’re interested and available. Thanks!

James Victor | 28 comments Hello Lemzer,

I was wondering if my manuscript, Pearl of the Orient, 149k words, would interest you. I'm on my 6th draft and would like to have more critique before I start sending out queries. I wish to find someone who could be interested enough to finish it all the way through.

Here's a blurb:

Lapulapu, datu of Opong, is set to be married to Alunsina, princess of the aghoys, guardians of nature. The queen first promised her daughter's hand to the rajah of Sugbo. But the plague of aswangs, archrivals of aghoys, human criminals cursed into beasts, convinces the queen to switch to Opong, where aswangs have reportedly vanished.

But the rajah spreads rumors that Lapulapu is hiding aswangs in human forms. Mayari, Lapulapu's first wife, disapproves of his second. Is it out of concern or perchance jealousy, since she will be relegated once the aghoys enter the marriage? Or is there a more sinister reason?

Unbeknownst to them, on the other side of the world, Magallanes sets sail in search of a westward route towards the Spice Islands, likely making a stop at Kabisay-an, threatening to upend the fate of their archipelago.

Here's the first three chapters as well:

message 22: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Hendricks | 13 comments Dear Friend,

I hope you’re doing well! I’m currently looking for beta readers for my novel, A Serenade Beneath the Sea, a young adult fantasy filled with adventure, mystery, and the allure of the deep ocean.

Excerpt from the Story: I hear the eerie and melodic love song sweep through the enchanting blues and greens of the ocean. It dances over me and into my heart, into my soul. The soft ascension of the low notes builds higher and higher resonations deep within my bones and makes me shiver with delight, little pinpricks appearing on my skin.

My tail swishes back and forth with the melody, building speed as the song transcends into a symphony of magnificent harmony. The airy high notes of the flutes blend with the majestic tones of the trumpet and synchronize with the soft plucking of the guitar. These instruments combine into each other to create one enchanting and divine song that has left an indent on my soul.

I want to be closer to the music. I want to feel it deeper, have it ring out more clearly through the water. I want to reach out and take it as my own, claiming the love that it disperses. But the music always stays apart, somewhere beyond where I don’t know. It finds its way to me, always imperceptibly quiet at first, growing louder and stronger as the chords progress. The music is always sneaking up on me, never keeping to a timetable of its own.

But then, the ocean shifts. The water gets slightly colder, grasping into me. The liquid darkens, subtly and gradually. The fish begin to disperse. I feel the chill in my scales, frigid ocean spiraling all around them. My hands begin to shake, and I know they are here.

What I’m Looking for in Beta Readers:

Honest feedback on pacing, character development, and world-building.
Thoughts on any sections that feel unclear or need refinement.
Insights into the overall engagement and emotional impact of the story.
The manuscript is approximately 21,161 long, and I’d love to receive feedback within two weeks. If you’re interested in diving into this underwater adventure, I’d be thrilled to share a copy with you!

Please let me know if you’d like to participate or if you have any questions. Your insights would be invaluable in making A Serenade Beneath the Sea the best it can be!

Content Warning: A Serenade Below the Sea contains scenes of peril, supernatural horror, and emotional distress, including depictions of siren-induced mind control, kidnapping, and intense chase sequences. The story features moments of violence, blood, and injury, as well as themes of grief, fear, and panic attacks. Additionally, the protagonist experiences bullying and harassment. Readers sensitive to these themes should proceed with caution.
