The City and Its Uncertain Walls
question
What wisdom did you take with you?

Hallo, this is my first time trying this out. I'm so in awe of this masterpiece. It followed me alongside a heartbreak, I was sadly left by my depressive boyfriend. It felt like it was meant to fall in my lap to get perspective and gain some trust back...
I have read some of Murakami's books, (my personal opinion) and by far this is the most magical, insightful and meaningful creation of his. I find myself throughout the book, comparing it to the uncertainties in my mind and self, my past relationship and the depressive thoughts that occurred in his mind.
I could only imagine how lonely and how black and white it must be to close oneself off into the darkness and not facing fears, love and life in general... I feel like the city portrays how oneself can leave the living, even though their shell is still functioning in the outside world, while soul searching or giving up... just pure exhaustion or just an acceptance that life is not for you (yellow submarine boy). It portrays the different confrontations we face and how we react, as a defence mechanism.
In some ways I think the point I take from this, is that we must decide, if we want to live og die. in some ways i think the ghost of Hr. Koyasu portrays a man that lived, that kept going and gave so much love and care for this world, even though he faced all that heartbreak, damage and loss. His soul therefore kept going, and helped the “living” find purpose and answers. When you give up your soul, to stay in the city - where you keep your head low, or you don't look into the horrifying black bird's eyes, it somehow portrays the feelings that howeres over you. Right?
I could keep on going, but that would for sure take all my time, i hope that this can lead to a bigger discussion of this masterpiece!
