Great Historic Fiascos is a book of historical anecdotes. Written in a light-hearted, somewhat roguish tone, it offers the reader a critical retelling of a number of hand-picked events that took an unexpected and sometimes spectacular turn for the worse for some of those involved. Using an approach that ranges from jocular to black humoured, the events covered focus mainly on battles and span the period from classical antiquity to the First World War.
