Nick and Sam are at a private dinner party hosted by Harry & Lilia and everyone is having a great time. Then Nick gets a call and learns a story has broken about President Nelson having an affair during the campaign with a staffer who has now had a baby. Your thoughts? After the mess with his son and his wife being treated for cancer, why was he willing to take this risk?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments These guys think they are invincible. Joe Biden had some serious cognitive issues and everyone covered for him. Nelson thought he deserved some nookie time and could get away with it.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I didn't care for President Nelson before this book. He is despicable, but presidential affairs are part of the job. The sad thing is that he decided to take a mistress while his wife was fighting cancer. It shows he is a major rat.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1803 comments When Nelson was first introduced, he seemed like an honorable man. He treated Nick and Sam with respect. Then he went downhill first wiith his attitude once Nick became VP and then with his son. So, I wasn't at all surprised that he would go so low as to cheat on his ill wife. IIRC, John Edwards did this and quit the presidential race some years ago.

I did not get the impression that his staff covered for him, just that they did not like his relationship with Tara. I cannot see Derek covering this up.
