Just a curious fact: a few days ago I was contacted by a new GR friend, who asked which books I like, etc. I wrote back and then got her (?) longer replies which felt like AI-generated texts. Today I decided to check my suspicions and fed the texts to an AI detector https://copyleaks.com/ai-content-dete... and both her longer messages are likely 100% AI-generated (I checked on my reply to her and it got 0% AI-generated, which I knew, but to check their detection system).

I do not know the goals of ones who do it but I decided to warn you not to chat with bots.

Ed Erwin | 902 comments I got one recently that claimed it had been recording my activity through my video camera. (It was impressed!) It said it would send videos to my friends unless I sent $50,000 to a bitcoin wallet. None of that felt terribly new. But I was disturbed that it warned that some of my friends might be "secret homosexuals". Heavens!

Automating extortion is understandable - send such message to 100,000 e-mails, even if one is stupid enough to pay you're in black. Moreover, you get an e-mail of a dupe that can be milked further.

In my case the situation (initially at least) was different, "she" asked what authors I like and shared which she likes. I guess it can be a way to get into one's confidence to "ask for a loan" or suggest a get-rich-quick scheme later. However, presently she speaks only about authors and books

I had a guy who I met in a GR group, can't remember name, invite me to his newly created SF group, try to talk to me and maybe catfish me, But when he said he was learning to play guitar and I told him I had taught guitar for years and offered tips, and then I said "my husband" and then he immediately dropped out of the group that he, himself, created and disappeared. Said he was suddenly too busy.

Ha. Just tell them the truth and they will go away!
