I read this book against my better instincts for two reasons: (1) my book bestie LOVES this series. Like, is obsessed. While our book tastes do not align 100%, we do tend to agree on 80% of romance. (2) this trilogy is ALL OVER BookTok.

I am not a dark romance fan. I do not like gore and violence. BUT, this book also looked humorous, and for the reasons above, I gave it a whirl.

And, it was....fine.

I did not like the gore, but it also wasn't as dark romance as I feared it may be. It was also highly readable and I flew through it.

I think I was more enamored by the restaurant aspects and how Rowan crafted an entire dining experience around his love for Sloane. Be still my heart. And if that were a real restaurant here in Boston, I would be going.

I will likely read the other books in the trilogy. They seem like they may be less gory? And sometimes you just need a book you can read quickly with little thought during a busy work week.

Kristen Brennan | 24 comments Thanks for the review! I've been iffy on this book as well. As a matter of fact, I almost bought a copy last night, but decided to put it back on the shelf. Maybe one day I'll give it a chance, especially since there doesn't appear to be a dark romance book - not a huge fan of dark romance either.

Sometimes that just hits the spot.
