We’re used to Noah being the strong and steady one in any situation but he almost completely shuts down from the moment he realized Colette was dead. He even was resentful of Josie’s participation in the investigation. Was it solely grief or more?

I think it was just grief and Josie took it extremely well!

I had a hard time with Noah's actions in this book. It was partly grief, but he also wanted Josie "to be his girlfriend" only. At times, I felt like he was "testing" Josie. It didn't make sense to me. Josie was supportive, but Noah pushed her away. He is typically very sensitive, so I'm sure he realized he was hurting Josie, especially when he sided with his sister and left.

I blame the sister who encouraged Noah to act the way he did. I think under the circumstances he was confused and torn between wanting Josie to be there for him or wanting her to be part of the investigation.

I thought Noah's reaction of grief was real and wanting Joseing to support him was genuine. I felt that the grief swallowed him whole. I wanted to see his rage and anger at the killer and for him to encourage Josie to go get the SOB that had killed his mother. I thought his reactions, after coming to terms with her murder, were all wrong.

I agree with Susan, his sister didn't help matters at all.

Grief makes you behave in such strange ways. At first, his actions kind of made sense. But when his sister got involved, she kept reinforcing Noah’s raw emotions and he was nowhere near his normal self. I wanted to smack her. If she hadn’t been there, Noah would have regained his balance a lot faster.
